Is it Indo-Pak thing or Arab culture does have this tradition of Nazr o Niyaz?
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
I think it comes into desi culture from iranian/persian culture. I don't think Arabs have this (as far as i I know)
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
What about Giyarheen Shareef of Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani? Isn't it related to Iraq (Arabs)?
Nazr o Niyaz
Arab? No I think so
they don’t even do teesra or chaleeswa.
I thought giyarweeh sharif is Pakistani thingy ![]()
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
came to Pakistan via?
India ![]()
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
India-Pak share this. Can we say that this is inspired from Prasad?
Nazr o Niyaz
Parsad? Pardas is something different :hmmm.

explain the difference between prasad and Nazr o Niyaz. If we say that Arabs don't have such things and these are Indo-Pak concepts, then we should find similar things in Indian culture
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
Prasad is very different.
I'll wait for KKF for the details though :P

Now you explain why pradas is different?

Ghiyarweeh sharif wagahira is like khairat.
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
Ghiyarweeh sharif wagahira is like khairat.
But khairat is not subject to particular occasion? right? My Dadi used to have buffaloes and for male calf she used to say 'ye to badshah peer ka hai'. You know Sindhis refer Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani as Badshah Peer.
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
The activities carried out in mandirs and mazaars are shockingly similar.
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
I have seen many Mullahs who said that Nazr o Niyaz is Ghair Allah thing , but when I present them with Halwa by telling that this is for Fateha or Nazr e Hussain, etc, they consumed that happily.
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
I think its a subcontinent thing.
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
Prasad is part of the offering that is made to god, after Aarti when food is offered to god, it is share from same club of sweets offered :)
Re: Nazr o Niyaz
I think its a subcontinent thing.
Do you consider it a thing that is offered to a Person other than Allah? (Ghairullah)
How do you see this notion in our society that people going to mazars and offering nazr o niyaz are mushriks? Don't you think that mazars are the source of catharsis of the less privileged people? What kind of harm these people do by offering Nazr o Niaz on the name of pious people to express gratitude for their contribution to Isalm and society (if copied from subcontinent culture)?
I heard people saying 'Nazr e Allah, Niyaz e Hussain'. How does that come under shirk?
