Nazar Lagana

i thought i’d give dushwari a break. i mean, she’s opened so many threads, she deserves to sit back and just not post threads anymore :stuck_out_tongue:
hehe..i’m kidding hon

so, back to my thread. what is nazar lagana? i’m pretty sure it’s a cultural thing, and there’s no islamic aspect to it..
but what is it? how is it done? where’d it come from?

and all the other stuff that relates to this topic, i’d like the answers to…

Re: Nazar Lagana

nazr nay nazr ko nazr bhar kay daikha
kay nazr ko aakhir nazr ki nazr lagg gayee
:D

Re: Nazar Lagana

:rotfl:
haha..

but emmy, that doesn’t help me :smilestar:

Re: Nazar Lagana

actually.....you may find some hadees on this.
don't quote me, but apparently our prophet (pbuh) would say a prayer to remove "nazar".

Re: Nazar Lagana

but what is nazar?

evil eye is what i've heard it means. buttt..i don't get the idea behind it

Re: Nazar Lagana

I've heard it can be anything from envy, jealousy to even extreme love of a mother towards her child can cause nazar.

Re: Nazar Lagana

When someone is green with envy or jealousy about your looks or good luck, grand Ma's used to say "wouh buri nazr say dekh raha hai" "nazr lug jai gee" means harm will come to you because of the jealousy!

Re: Nazar Lagana

nazar lag jana = person gets sick, goes in physical sickness, hardships of life (so nonphysical aspects).

khushyon ko nazar lag gayi: if u're too happy/lucky and someone out of jealousy, even because of genuinely feeling happy, PRAISES that, u can get nazar lagified..

i dunno the original logic, and sorry, i cant confirm/deny this nazar stuff but yeah it exists, just like magic.. hard-to-find, but exists

its like jins vs bhoots.. jins exist, bhoots dont.. fine line in between

Re: Nazar Lagana

And if you read Surah 113 Al-Falak it talks about protection from the "evil of those who blow on knots" and from the "evil of the envier when he envies" so i think there is some sort of religious element related to nazar..... and like Muzna siad the Prophet (PBUH) was himself a victim of nazar and black magic.

Re: Nazar Lagana

If you believe in such things then you should take Sabut Laal Mirch, the one used for tarka, and place a couple of 'em in the flame

and give it a few minutes.

If the smell makes you cough then nazar lagee thee

and here we have it. :halo:

Re: Nazar Lagana

I think there is some Islamic basis for it, though I'm not clear on it.

I do know that Ammi was convinced that it was an issue of "nazar" when my brother was very very ill a few years ago. No doctor could figure out what was wrong and he was running fevers of 107, having his blood drawn constantly, and taking test upon test, weakening before our eyes for weeks.

MashAllah he got better, but we still don't know what it was. Or even what worked.

Re: Nazar Lagana

Okay…now that stuff is just bogus.
The only thing I believe in is reciting from the Quran. That’s it.

My chachi used up a least a kilo of laal mirch when we were in Karachi. All for Noor…much to the chagrin of her father who insisted that he must also be affected… LOL.

And btw…if you don’t cough, then nazar lagee thee.

Re: Nazar Lagana

If you believe in it ..it happens......dont believe in nazar or magic and it wont happen.

Re: Nazar Lagana

*faizy *- yeah, that's all i've heard about it too. so just wanted to know what the actual meaning behind it was

*sparrow *- could you get me the actual verse please?

*LB *- no offense or nothing, but the kinda stuff you're talking about, i don't believe in that. how can something like a laal mirch make the nazar go away or nazar lagaee.
just seems like its based on customs and culture.

*sahar *- i think we usually say that when we can't think of any other explaination. so and so got sick, and it's because unn pay nazar lagaee hai.
like i don't understand the logic behind it.

i personally belive it's a bunch of made up stuff that we've done for sooo many years, generations upon generations, that we continue to do it, yet we really don't know why we're doing it.
and until someone can show me the islamic proof for it, i'm gonna take it with a grain of salt :p

Re: Nazar Lagana

Islamically, I have no doubt it existed, there are references in the Quran and Hadiths to it.

But back then people in power used to consult practioners of black magic, and in return such practioners became rich/powerful.

If people today still knew how to do this stuff, they'd be immensely wealthy.

Besides which, centuries of witchhunts against suspected practioners of black magic in both the Christian and Islamic worlds have almost certainly wiped them all all out by now. Black magic is now simply blamed by people for the misfortunes of their own life. Like, when they mortally offend someone without realising it, they would blame someone for casting black magic on them to ruin that relationship.

Re: Nazar Lagana

so is there any proper way to practice it now? or has it gone extinct?

Re: Nazar Lagana

Well you just missed the sarcasm in my post then now didnt you

I said if you believe in such bogus stuff then why not start believe in other stuff too.

Re: Nazar Lagana

If read different disciplines / train of thoughts (aka religions, healing practices, martial arts) ... you will notice a lot of them work with energy.
There are scientific proofs that they do accomplish impossible or demonstrated intresting influences on others (let me know if u want me to look up exact cases for you).
Its kinda like mind over matter philosphy (after all if you break down material, EVERYTHING is just pure energy - matter is trapped energy).

Coming back to your question. I beleive praying / evil eye also involves manipulating these energies (intentionally or unintentionally). The stronger your belief / emotion, more control you can exert.

My Team Leader (at work) is a "Riki" Master (another discipline which controls energies for healing purposes). She once told me, she is just getting to a point where she can see auros (energy sphere) around people. This tells her the mood and if they people are generally good / bad.
She has also went through some experiences in her life - and she survived through them ONLY because she practiced Riki. I kinda beleive her.

[Note: I am not giving specific details here, because I am talking about a third person, whom I don't have permission to talk about in a public forum. MSN me individually and I will tell you details]
