On a serous note, In my opinion it could be used in reference to saving one's self from other people.
Humans have the tendency to be envious or jealous of the fortune of others.
They cannot stand anyone else more fortunate than them be it looks, education, money, status, relationships or personal acheivments.
Their jealousy can then make them do ill things to others upto an extent where they can on purpose harm those who they donot like.
Spread rumors that arent true, ***** nonstop bout 'em and just tell false things that are not there and maybe cause two ppl to fight just for personal pleasure.
When the elders say nazar naheen lagay, they most probably mean saving ones self from such people.
In a way its alrite, to hide your good things from others to save yourself from their jealousy.
But IMO im against living life in fear of such morons.
nazar lagana ... meirey ko corner kerney kee nahee hey zaroorat.
bey hisoon ka rasta mey khood chowr deitee hon.
