Or perhaps it’s spelled as “naish.” What exactly does this word mean? Sounds like it means nahoosat or inauspicious or something with dire consequences. Growing up I would hear this word from relatives during summer vacations in Pak. Taang hilaana naisha hai. Kaalay kapray pehn’na naish hai. Billi ko tang karna naisha hai. And more recently I heard…Baalon ko khula chor k sona naish hai.
What are some that you have heard? And what do you think are the reasons behind these things being considered “naish”…?
I have heard the word used sporadically, but I don’t know anyone who used the word routinely. It just means what you said above … nahoosat phailana. Any act/habit that is frowned upon or that displeases the other person can be called naish.
^okay, now I can understand that some habits displease others such as shaking your leg…which I have a habit of doing and it annoys others…but things like leaving your hair untied while sleeping…why is that a naish.
I think some of the things are thought to maybe bring misfortune?
