The situation what Nawaz is creating in North Punjab is same as what supporters of Nawaz used to complain about MQM. PMLN has support of around 30 percent Punjab votes but PMLN votes are concentrated in the cities of north Punjab. If PMLN creates law and order problem in North urban Punjab and shut down Northern Punjab to blackmail Federal Government, there action would be same as what MQM in early 1990s were accused of doing, that is creating law and order problem in south urban Sindh and shut down Karachi to blackmail federal government.
Thus, if PMLN take this route of creating law and order problem, they should get same treatment what MQM received in 1990s, and that is military operation against them, their workers and supporters. If Federal government would not do that, than it would create perception that government discriminates between Pakistanis, as government treats people of Northern Punjab differently than Southern Sindh. This discrimination would create discontent amongst people of Sindh and that would be not good for unity of Pakistan.
30% of the votes in Punjab? They have 170+ seats out of some 340. PPP has 107 and PML[Q] has about 82. Now it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out who is the biggest party in the province. Also, the MQM was never the biggest party in Sindh, nor will they ever will be. Also, the operation was started against the MQM by the ARMED forces of Pakistan because of the torture of Major Kaleem by Altaf Hussain. Talk about comparing apples with oranges.
Sa1eem bhaijan. Thank you for your factual analysis, which highlights the true situation in relation to the limits of support Sharif brothers have. I have yet to see any big rally in support of the Sharifs in Southern Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, and Balochistan, and even Fata.
So it is very much true what you have said about Nawaz Sharif’s support to parts of Northern Punjab.
MQM waging a jihad in the early 90s against the Pakistan Army was perfectly alright?
There was no jihad being waged by MQM and no such language was used. It was only pak army/isi orchestrated massacre with support of SSP jihadis. The term jihad is used way too often by the beardo clans.
President (K) Zardari made a few promises to the nation on TV. He is no more respecting his own promises. NS just wants those fulfilled. He is not asking anything else. You have problem with that?
Atleast his sugar mill is in Pakistan and not Switzerland.
The army was officially a pro mazhabi tanzeem army in the 90s (still is to some degree). Why do you find this surprising? Maybe you should do such research.
