NatWest Series ODIs - England, Sri Lanka, India

I'm not comming up with excuses, like I said before averages don't mean anything.

If you are so desperate to compare averages, why don't you answer my questions first, is Bevan and Gilchrist better than Tendulkur?

Me, I don't think so, I think Sachin is the best currently even if he has flopped for his team so many times but he is my favirote batsman, if your'e saying averages mean something than he shouldn't be the best in the world today.

Compare all you want but you won't convince anyone because Pakistan have had always the best batsman since the mid 80s.
The last time I remember India having a better lineup was in the early to mid 80s with Gavaskar, Srikkanth, Amarnath, and co. that was the last time I remember them having better batsman than us.

what i see is another tendulkar ton that fails to bring victory to india....

is this guy some sort of bad luck for india????

Sri Lanka against India at Edgbaston. India won the toss and put S/L into bat.

Currently S/L 79/2 off 19.5 overs.

Anyone who doubts Tendulkar’s class should sit and watch him play. Some of the shots he plays are just amazing. If he plays in a team thats not very good in other departments then that is not his fault. I mean Germany’s soccer team is average thats why they lost the world cup but does that mean Oliver Khan is an average goalkeeper too?

Answer ofcourse is NO. Tendulkar is a brilliant player and a great batsman. Always accept your “enemy’s” potential only then u can fight it

Watching India play in the recent Natwest trophy I think they are an improved side, at the moment atleast. It would be great if we could have Pak and India play eachother. Nothing can match the excitement of Tendulkar facing Akram

Agreed. Tendulkar against Shoaib will be the ultimate duel.

Yeah there will be nothing lovlier than to watch Shoaib blow away another golden duck, in India.

Asif and AQ, you haven't answer my question yet, please reply soon, or otherwise you have given up.

I guess you are referring to the Adam Gilchrist and Bevan question.

Since you have decided to choose their best batting performances and compare with Sachin (in a way comparing two batsmen's combine talent against sachin). I will compare their individual data in both forms of cricket against Sachin's and then I have calculated the avg. Here are the results :-

    Gilchrist Bevan Sachin
TESTS 60.00 (31) 29.07 (18) 57.58 (96)
ODIs 33.96 (136) 55.83 (178) 44.30 (292)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Avg - 46.98 42.45 50.94

Not to mention that Bevan's test cricket performance is so pathetic that he is not considered in that form of game. Gilly is an outstanding batsman and he has proved it time and again, but he is definately not better than Sachin as a batsman.

I have answered your question, AQ, I hope you agree with me. Can I expect an answer now ?

AK

That was no where close to what I'm looking for, I asked for their performance in their own form of the game.
Since you are big fan of averages, why don't you tell me Gilchrist, is he better than your god in test and bevan, is he better than the god in odi, I'm not talking overall.

You have no choice but to provide ridiculous solutions because you simply can't answer my question.
You can never accept any other batsman being better than Sachin, so you will never say yes.
And you can't say no because it will ruin your whole theory of averages being the answer to everything.

I just want a simple yes or no answer and nothing else.

Sachin is the past, Gili is the present, and the future...

As far as I know, Indias team is carried on the back of a few good opening batsmen, tendulkar, dravid etc.. Without them, the team is just average.

itstrue with every team..
take out Shoaib, waqar ,Wasim yours is also average...

Bottom line is Sachin, dravid etc are Indian
and Ws and shoib are pakistani.

so peace out.

Silly of me to think we will be discussing trivial matters like yesterdays India against S/L match here. Oh Well!!!!!. Let's return to the thread now.

Sri Lanka won by 23 runs.
Nice consolation for them.

At last S/L clicked but too late, they are already out of the tournament.

England against India, match reduced to 32 overs each side due to rain. England batting first and are 98/2 after 17 overs.

I think ENG will setup a big total and I think ENG is more favourite for this match but you never know ITS CRICKET.

Current Status :

England - 229/8 after 32.0
India - 118/5 after 21.0 overs. Run rate : 5.62 (Target: 230 in 32 overs.)

: To win India needs 112 runs.
: Req. Rate : 10.18

Tendulkar Not Out 36 (India's only hope on the wicket)

This is a perfect chance for Tendulkur to show that he is a match winner if he stays their for the whole inning.
