Natural Births

Who had a natural birth-meaning no epidural or anything..just gas or something??

How was it?

Obv its diff for each person…was watching a show yday : ‘One born every minute’ and saw a women who gave birth without anything except gas…i was thinking wow…if she can do it then y cant all the other women?

All ladies who take epidurals-what side effects did u see…and did it really help? Did you really have no pain whilst giving birth?

My mum always says to me, i had 4 births and had no epidural so theres no need to take it!

Im not expecting yet, but get worried thinking how i will be when i do
:S

They say Allah paak only gives you as much pain as you can take…

Re: Natural Births

Omg Omg Omg TabuB! I watched that programme and it scared the living daylights out of me! I'am about to get married so I was extra scared.

My mum had five children, all natural, and she said the pain is worse than breaking bones. I was shuddering after that programme.

My sister had a C-section and she was bedridden for 6 weeks which is annoying but with natural birth you can walk around and be "normal" again after a week!. I don't know anyone whose had an epidural but I'd be scared of the side-affects of that. There is a risk of paralysis in that apparently so it's not something i really want to opt for. I think water births or giving birth standing up is normal.

But that programme is such an eye opener!!!

Re: Natural Births

i know...its excellent..i have been watching it religiously lol

I know two ppl who had epidural and one said she didnt experience much pain..she only had pain when they were doing her stitches because the epidural affect had come off....shes fine alhumdulilah...so no effect of epidural..

but i wud be scared 2 even have the epidural..that big needle in ur spine...aarghhh!!

Re: Natural Births

In old days women used to give birth in their rooms on charpais.. no idea how they used to do it... I dont think about births, that just scares the **** out of me... I think Allah gives you the strength to bear the pain when you are in labour.

Re: Natural Births

i had epidural first time n Alhamdollilah no side effects, second time i had NOTHING no gas no epi no nothing there wasnt time for it :hehe: side effect badddd back pain since then, i havent recovered it kills, then again i had a totally back labor so tht cud b to blame

Re: Natural Births

I'm such a needle phobic that I refused epidural for all 3 births. In US, they are so into giving epidural that I waited almost too long at home, scared to go to the hospital.
I had a half-dose of nubain (its a painkiller) that they put in your IV. The other half-dose goes in a large intra-muscular needle so I refused that. He was born in minutes and I have to say his was the easiest birth of the 3. Painful, sure. But endurable.

The other 2 deliveries were far tougher. My labor stopped as soon as they broke the water so they had to get it going with pitocin. That is NASTY stuff. The contractions are violent, they dont feel natural. I came pretty darn close to asking for an epidural which is truly shocking for me. I got thru with the half-doses of nubain but it was bad. Things seem to go better when the docs let nature take its course.

Re: Natural Births

yeah sweetu back labor can do that to you!

I took a dose of iv pain med which made me dazed for about 10 mins. I didnt take epidural since that was the plan. It wasn't easy ofcourse, there was lots of screaming involved lol but Alhamd i was able to handle it. I had good support from the midwife and my husband Alhamd which made it possible.

Epidurals dont always work for everyone either so dont assume taht you will take an epi and all will be painless.

Re: Natural Births

I think mothers are the bravest people alive. Alhumdulilah. That's why Allah has given you such a high position amongst Muslims.

Well done all you ladies! :) I just start shaking when anyone talks about the pain of childbirth.

Re: Natural Births

I love that programme! But it scares the shizz outta me OMG June is so close and i'm so not prepped for the pain bits. Don't want epi or anything inshAllah guys pray that I have a natural birth.

Re: Natural Births

hey girls..i just thought i will add my experience to labour ...ive been watchin the same programe "ONE BORN EVERY MINUTE" watchin this pro does put u off but i think every birth is different its how u cope with it urself..ive had 4 children all nautral birth my 1st was 2 weeks over due had to b induced but as it was my first birth i had no idea how bad the pain was goin to b but dealt with it...2nd and 3rd birth on time went into labour myself again no pain relief and 4rth was over due 11 days was induced again but bc i knew wat labour pain was like i was ready for it..it was nothin like 2nd and 3rd i felt this was the painfulliest bc my body was forced into labour by induction it felt soooo bloody painfull my contractions were soooo strong i thought i was gonna die but still no pain relief natural birth..and she was out in 7 hours..now i know not to b induced again its more painful..but hey im done with children now 4 is more than enough..2 boys 2 girls wat i always wantd..

Re: Natural Births

I have 9 weeks to go until term and I shouldnt have read this topic :frowning: for my first one, he was overdue by 10 days, had to be induced, nothing worked, i took epidural (was in so much favour as I am an anesthetist myself) it worked but still my doc thinks it was a horrible delivery as baby was face-presentation and pains didnt come good plus she couldnt use vaccum at all, forceps were relatively contraindicated.. and i just knew that normal labour=c-sec :bummer: as mine, though termed as normal was totally abnormal one :smack: I have no idea how pains feel like as i never had regular ones ever. so I am pretty scared this time

My sister , though, had two natural births MA and she went fine but then we all know she has a great threshold for pain. it really depends on that as well.

Re: Natural Births

epdiural and how bad it is is mostly a myth that desis suffer from, especially in pak.. no one in my family has it done adn have had normal deliveries cuz they fear that it may hit a nerve and make them brain dead, or paralysed etc.

im not saying there may not be back pain or a botched application, but generally, you dont have side effects...

i had it put in TWICE from scratch ... it didnt help at all.. its meant to last 8 hours and ease ure contractions and help delivery

it lasted 2 hours each time, my contractions were so strong my hsuband could feel them and well, it didnt help at all, BUT, i had no side effects either... it depends on how well it was put in

i had a 32 hour labour all spent on bed since i had things going up me and i couldnt walk.. that made it even more hard...

BUT

the baby cant stay in forever.. so all u women worrying bout the pain and wotnot, yes its gonna hurt like a frog, but wont last forever

thats the only thought i had going in my head... its ok honey.. he cant stay in forever.. this will be over soon...

good luck all of you :)

Loving the replies...great info..Thanks Ladies...your all so brave..bless u all

The ones who are yet to deliver, I pray that inshallah you will have a very quick, smooth and safe delivery inshallah ameen..do let us know how it goes..

my sister is expecting her first child anytime now...and i was quite concerned about her....i keep telling her think about the end result...the pain wont last that long..and inshallah it wont kill you...if all the ladies can...then so can you!!

Re: Natural Births

I got an epidural, only felt a little pinch of the needle .... the contractions were worse, the needle being inserted was nothing compared to those, it worked instantly.... I was so relaxed, started feeling the contractions after 8 hours, they said I was ready to deliver, delivered my daughter after 25-30 mins.... no side effects alhamdulillah :)
I'll inshaAllah opt for the epidural with my second child too, why go through so much pain when there is something to help you out.

Re: Natural Births

I can not wait to go on that hosiptal bed, get some epidural in my system, get that baby out and be done with this whole thing.

Re: Natural Births

^:cb: How far along are you Sajalina?

Re: Natural Births

Only 6 weeks. :crying:

Re: Natural Births

I’m tau all excited about shopping for the maternity clothes and shopping for the baby and getting pampered by my husband and all the pregnancy stuff, people giving you smiles and being extra nice… its lots of fun :hehe:

Re: Natural Births

This fear of back labor. Yes, its awful. BUT if you have the right "coach" or partner, it makes all the difference. My hubby was just AWEsome when I went thru it, pressed and rubbed in exactly the right spot and it made things SO much easier.

Labor is work for sure. Its painful for sure. But if you have the right supports in place, you wont even need epidural.

Re: Natural Births

So those who went through delivery all naturally, did you take any Lamaze classes and learn the breathing techniques? Do they help at all?
