Natural Births

Oh I have a severe case of nausea. It’s killing me serioulsy. :frowning:

Re: Natural Births

i won’t bored you guys with the story of my labour :p, but i did take an epidural when i had to deliver. not to scare you guys or anything, but it was the worst experience ever.

so first they had to call the doc (this was at 3 in the morning), so it took him a while to come. i was afraid of the needle, but i didn’t have a phobia, and to be honest, at that time, i just wanted whatever relief i could get. so doc comes in, tells me what he’s going to do (yeah, yeah..just get on with it, will ya?!). and we all know how delicate of a situation it is. the needle has to go in the exact spot in order for it to be effective. didn’t happen to me. the doc pushed the needle a little too much further than he should have. when he went ‘shoot’, i went ‘oh crap’. knew it wasn’t gonna work.

didn’t numb my contractions at all. instead my entire lower body went numb. couldn’t feel my legs at all. they were like lead pipes. kept falling on the nurses and doc when they did their checks :hehe: i told them to keep upping the amount of epidural, but they said it was already at the highest.

so hm, it didn’t work for me. it works great for some people, which is awesome. just wished it had helped me a bit, but i felt every contraction anyways. nevermind the piercing headaches afterwards, which are a common side effect. whoop di do.

Re: Natural Births

I have about 2 more weeks to go before my due date,Inshallah.
And needless to say I am scared.:teary1:

Re: Natural Births

awwww, don’t be scared :hugz:… you’ll be fine inshaAllah. Just keep your hubby with you, you’ll get through it and forget all about the pain afterwards, like I did (kaafi feel hua thaa before and 8 hours after the epidural)

I didnt take any special classes. I was at home the whole night while i was in labo, i just kept pacing back and forth when the contractions hit. It hurt wayy more to lie down which hubs was trying to make me do so i could rest. But i managed to rest between them. Once we got to the hospital and i was at 5cms or so, i still walked alot since i felt the contractions were slowing down. Once they were regular again, i got in the whirlpool tub. THAT was heavenly!

Anyhow, Can i just say there is nothing wrong with taking the epi? it doesnt make you any less of a mother. It is just a personal choice that one makes.

:k: i agree. taking any meds or epidural during the labour doesn’t make you any less of a mom compared to if you were to go for a natural delivery. it’s what each woman can handle and her threshold for pain.

Re: Natural Births

and sometimes its just listening to your body... this is one area where head over body does not win .... u may have all the pain tolerance in the world but sometimes medicine intervention is needed to not complicate things and m ake sure that baby comes out healthy and happy.

so dont be hell bent on one over the other... listen to what ure body is saying and go with that.. epi or not, its still gonna come outta that hole!

I had a very smooth delivery Alhumdolillah. It lasted 12 hours from the start of my first contraction to the actual birth. The contractions were completely bearable upto 7 of those hours. I even slept through a couple of hours and then I got an epidural. My contractions werent getting regular, so they induced me. I didnt feel a thing, the epidural worked like a charm. In between sometime, the nurse made me change sides and thats when my epidural got unplugged, realized it later when I could feel every single contraction on one of the sides...they were BADD!
Luckily I was almost done then, so it actually worked in my favour to know when the contractions were coming in. My son was out in 10 minutes. The nurse was joking around saying that since it was all so easy, she'd love to see me next year too...Nah! NOT happening! :|

I would still be scared for next time though...cuz they say every pregnancy and delivery is different...

Prototype here when they give you epidural, they monitor the labor pains and if they see that the contractions are getting less or not, which they sometimes do, they give you infusion so that the contractions grow, its like getting induced but you have no pains as you are numb below the waiste. Thats how it was with me. I was so scared of the pain at the end, that I said yes to epidural, after I was 5 cm diluated.

Re: Natural Births

Whats "back labor" and what "gas" are you guys talking about?

Re: Natural Births

Back labour is when you feel the pains most strongly in your lower back than in the from where the baby bump is. Its supposedly much more painful. But if you have a coach who knows what they're doing, its actually easier to soothe these pains than it is to soothe the more typical pains.

Docs for the most part dont use "gas" anymore. It used to be very common to let the moms take w whiff of laughing gas (sorry I forget what its actually called but dentists use it). I havent heard of many docs who use it these days though.

Re: Natural Births

I had an epi with my first after 7 hours of terrible back labor and was I relieved?? Epidural is a blessing... and the side effects aren't as bad as they are made out to sound. I did have backpain for months and months on end after that.. but I am not sure if it was due to the epi or the 7 hours of back labor.

Didn't get an epi on the second one coz it went too fast. I was induced at 11 am, the painful contractions didn't even start till 12:30, I asked for an epi at 1, and by the time the aneasthetic made it there at, I was already 9 cms, so my gyn didn't let me have it.

How is it done, do you mean with massage etc? Did your husband just figure out himself how to do it, or did he learn it from somewhere

Re: Natural Births

we did go to a "birthing class" offered by the hospital. And they did go over it a little bit but I think he just tried until he found a way to make me more comfortable - he asked does this help...no, ok how about this. till something DID work and then he kept his mouth shut and just kept rubbing.

Re: Natural Births

We went to a birthing class too and they taught us all about breathing and focusing and let me tell you that all went down the drain once the pain started. I was given pitocin and it really does make the contractions unbearable. I went into it thinking that I was going to try to do it naturally but if the pain got too bad then I would just take the epidural.

The doc came in and explained exactly what he was going to do. He told me that there were very few side effects and they are extremely rare. He made me feel extremely comfortable. The epidural worked like a charm, I was so relaxed that I couldn't stop smiling. I am soooo glad I took it and alhum I have had no side effects. I asked the nurse and apparently over 95% of women get the epidural. I dont want to say that there can never be any side effects b/c it's your spine and the doc is just human, but this guy was sooo confident and I totally trusted him.

I go for normal delivery for my first and second kids. No choice!. At that time epidural is not around. C-sec only for complected labor.

For my third I choose C-sec. What a mistake!! if i can go back, I will go for normal. No stitching, no tummy pain etc.
