Natural Alternative to pads

I don’t know what pads are made of, but there is that plastic covering on top, and if they use cotton, it’s bleached. The risks for this are probably remote and rare but I’d rather use a natural alternative. I checked out the organics section of my local supermarket but what they have is kinda pricey. What to do! I decided to just use cut up clean cotton rags but washing those all the time after every use is such a hassle. If I was in pakistan I’d just go and buy unbleached cotton but can’t get it here (I’m in N america).

so like, suggestions? affordable cheap ones only please.

Washing those

Thats nasty, I can’t even look at it. Whats wrong with normal pads eh?

yea how can u wash them!!! its just gross!!
theres lots of good quality pads these days and the whole world uses them!! havent heard bout any bleach effects yet and never experienced anything bad myself!!
washing would not only be extremely time consuming, itd also be a pain in the @#$%^&* !!!
:disgust:

good idea

hay Torn,, what you can also do is that you can buy 4 or 5 cotton type cloth i forgot it's name but it can be found in Walmart or sears.. just ask for cotton cloth it is like cotton and very soft.... and it is very easy you dont need to wash it with hand just keep it under running water and put some soap or any antibacterial solution on it...it is very easy and cheap too and you can use one for more than 6 or 7 months..
:)

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Back in the day (the 70s) reusable cloth nappies were in fashion for babies .... boil them in hot water, soak them to dry and use them again. Thank goodness that diapers were invented by the time I was born. So I guess if people had the patience to go through all that hassle back then, surely they can do so again now ... although it is disgusting. :p

Hve you considered buying a mooncup?

The idea might seem a little gross but over the past couple of years they have had good reviews from various woman’s magazines and the idea is slowly taking off.

Once you bought the product then there’s no further ongoing costs from month to month, and they are enviromentally friendly. Might be worth a try?

I seem to be agreeing with you!

Wash them!!! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Oh sorry, I am a guy, wasn’t supposed to reply here, oops

I don't find washing it gross, neither do I find cloth diapers gross. It's just time consuming to do it after every use.

I try to look for organic alternatives for everything. Unfortunately most of the time they are expensive. Like I said, the risks may be minimal or even rare but I don't like the thought of using plastic or chlorinated/bleached cotton and other synthetic materials around myself or my child.

Yeah Attia, I have cotton cloth at home so I'll be using that.

I thought about the Keeper (shahreens post) after i read about it in the paper but I'm not sure if I want to go ahead with it.

And girls stop "ewwwwing" over it. The middle and lower class in Pakistan have no alternative but to use cotton cloth for this because they can't even afford unbleached cotton let alone the regular pads.

yeah

Shehreen, if you use that keeper... doesnt your virginity finishes. cause i heard that if you use those things or tempex your virginity finishes... please guide me???

Attia, I would imagine that the hymen can break a little or completely with an object like that.

Well you won't lose your virginity as you're not having sex with it (I hope)

yeah

Now shehreen i am young but i will say it...... Shehreen isnt it the same as doing sex......the only difference is sperms.... Sorry ppl i had to ask this
:(

:k: How right you are.

My poor naive child. The hymen is only a part of being a virgin. In quite a few cases, girls that have never had sex don't have a hymen because they're athletic (i.e. biking, horse riding, swimming, stretching). And for heavens sake, sex is not the same as inserting a tampon or the keeper cup in the vagina. I think you should educate yourself a little more on this topic.

Hum Sa, I think she meant that as with sex, the hymen is broken and with tampons etc the hymen is broken too. And yeah, thats my reason for not using tampons or that cup thing too, cuz I want my hymen intact, call me old fashioned...

No, I think she meant using a tampon was the same as having sex because according to her the only difference is the "sperms".

Oh btw, there's nothing "old fashioned" about wanting to keep your hymen intact. I mean if you aren't athletic and don't stretch etc, then yeah keep it that way.
