whats with the 'voluntary' repatriation. they came over due to soviet war, and then stayed due to afhans killing each other, and then stayed because taleban were so bad, well now NATO has control. What is Kharzai and Nato doing to make conditions right so the afghani refugee camps can be closed and them repatriated to Afghanistan.

Again, nothing came out of it... It seems like we are permanently stuck with all these refugees. Alot of the refugees have now silently and covertly embedded themselves into the Pakistani soceity, but htere is still a large population dependent on camps such as jalozai and spider. They are always going to be a strain on the economy.

There alot of Afghans who succesfulyl assimilated themselves into pakistan(ie. people who have started bussiness's, gotten jobs, most of them are Pashtuns), but then again there are alot of afghans who still live in refugee camps, and beg for food, go through trash etc(mostly farsiwaans), they need to be returned home. The afghans who have gotten jobs and started succesfull lives dont pose much fo a threat, but the ones who still live in refugee camps etc, do pose a threat. Alot of the refugees didnt sign up for the afghan refugee registration process, rather opting to stay in pakistan.

Coming back to Afghan refugee issue, it's not fair to force those Afghanis who have been settled with business and job to leave Pakistan..rest of the refugees may return to their native place under applicable conventions of United Nations dealing with refugees, one can't ignore the fact that there are millions of refugees hosted by other Nations as well under humanitarian laws of UN.

humanitarian law of UN calls for refugees to return to their countries once the conditions that they escaped from are no longer present. It does not matter if yu have kids in school, and a business and what nots, imigraton laws of the host country are followed. Now its different for a refugee who obtained a legal status of a premanent resident thru marriage or investments or employer sponsorship or whatever channels may be available for them to do that. Other than that refugees are temporary residents and need to return once the issue is solved.
Afghan refugees came to Pakistan to escape from Soviets initially, who have not been around in Afghanistan for what, around 2 decades now? and then it was the warlords going after each other like dogs.
Now that Kharzai is in power, and NATO has secured afghanistan from the menace of al kayda and tale-bobs, why should refugess not go back t faghanistan.

Camps in Pakistan housing more than 230,000 Afghan refugees to be closed – UN
8 February 2007 – Citing security and development concerns, the United Nations refugee agency, Pakistan and Afghanistan have made plans to close four camps, accommodating more than 230,000 Afghan refugees, by the end of this summer, while providing residents with repatriation and relocation options. “We understand that security near the border is a top priority and stress that refugee camps must retain their civilian nature,” said Guenet Guebre Christos, the representative in Pakistan for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). “At the same time, the authorities should recognize genuine humanitarian needs, as they have done in the last 30 years, and offer options to Afghans affected by camp closure.” Under the new arrangement, which was agreed upon at the 12th Tripartite Commission meeting among Pakistan, Afghanistan and UNHCR in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, those residing in the camps located in Pakistani border provinces scheduled for closure this year will be offered two options: voluntary repatriation with UNHCR assistance, or relocation to other camps in Pakistan for those who cannot return to Afghanistan immediately. “We see Afghans who are repatriating from Pakistan as our goodwill ambassadors and I assure you that the government of Pakistan will try to maintain the goodwill,” Pakistan’s Minister of States and Frontier Regions Sardar Yar Muhammed Rind, who oversees refugee issues, told reporters.
According to Mr. Rind, more than 2 million Afghan refugees have registered with the Pakistani Government and have been given Proof of Registration cards. Following the agreement, refugees with these cards will receive an enhanced reintegration package of $60, double the amount distributed to those without cards, if they deregister them upon returning to Afghanistan. The two countries have agreed to pool resources to increase this package to $100. Mr. Rind says that Pakistan will pledge $5 million to the fund. “We believe that giving $100 per returnee will help them to reintegrate in a more sustainable way,” said Afghanistan’s Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Ustad Mohammad Akbar Akbar, himself a former refugee. Afghanistan has launched several schemes aimed at helping refugees returning home, including a land allocation scheme establishing 50 townships in 29 provinces, with further plans to set up a total of 100 townships within three years. Shortages of land and shelter are the reasons cited by most Afghan refugees to not to return to their country. A 2005 survey of Afghans residing in Pakistan showed that 57 per cent said repatriation was not a possibility because of a lack of land or shelter to return to. The Tripartite Commission, to be flexible and adapt to changing realities on the ground, will amend and extend the agreement concerning voluntary repatriation until the end of 2009, pending approval by the Governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan, UNHCR said.

Good. They can come and live in Quetta Town, Karachi, and help out in the under resourced construction industry. Maybe some of the half completed flyovers will get the much needed manpower.

The latter type of Afghans (Parsibans, azara, azbek etc.) are not a ethnicity, they are a DISEASE..
They are destroying Pakistan, the leeches are a starin on our economy, they have given nothing back to Pakistan for its kindness and graciousness towards them except for hatred, enmity, drugs, guns, murder… Except for fair skinned dancers for Heera Mandi but even they’re infested with AID’S/STD’S..

I respect your Islamic sentiments and I too wished all Muslims could be brotherly but we don’t live in a perfect world, I didn’t use to hate Afghans, I thought they were brothers until I found out they DETEST/ABHOR/HATE Pakistan and LOVE India, after everything we have done for them this is how they repay us…
We tolerate the poverty, drugs, violence, bloodshed, disease they bring to Pakistan, we let them leech of our poor country and strain its economy… And how do they repay us??? They hate us, they blame us for everything that goes wrong in their country and in the world.
There is nobody more ungrateful and unthankful than the Afghan, remember that, the better you will treat them the more arrogant they will act towards you whereas if you treat them like the tramps they are they will be all brotherly because respect is not befitting such lowly people.
I use to think of them as brothers and I still defend them when my Indian or White colleagues say bad things about them but I don’t respect them anymore, not after the way they think of my Watan Pakistan and the bad things they have to say about it whilst living in Pak itself or after getting a education from Pakistan then coming to England and teaching their (my generation) hatred and disdain for Pakistan and Pakistanis…
I hate them, Muslim brotherhood is fair enough but you Mullah’s have to be realistic, Muslim Brotherhood is a two-way thing. We can’t sacrifice our Watan’s honour… I too wish for the Khilafah but let’s be realistic if it wasn’t for Pakistan what would we have?? Persecution at the hands of Hindus in India? Would other Muslims be there for us? Or do we move to Iran where Pakistanis get called DEHATI? Or Arabia where we’d called RAFEEQ WAL MISKEEN? Or Afghanistan where they call us DALLKHUR?? If you’ve still got rosy-ummah glasses on just take a look at any Afghan bulletin board on the net and search “Paki”, you’ll understand how much of a brother they consider you.
If we have any respect it is because Allah has given us our nation, I can’t sacrifice my country’s honour. And I don’t think those type of Afghans could care less about Islam or Islmaic brotherhood, they’re very shallow people, easily impressed with glitter, they’re more into singing, dancing and pimping than Islam.

Yeah, Afghanis (esp the farsiwans) in general hate Pakistanis. Now you could argue they blame Pakistan for the mess that they ended up in, but even before the whole soviet invasion, thats how they were before too.

Yaar sorry to say if you have these danigrating words for our muslim brothers, please vent your frustation in an Indian forum. Yaar, there is a little bit of problem in all societies- even Christian biradari is not free from small amout of conflicts.. See, French dont like Germans, English dont like French- so and so forth. The two world wars are classical examples of how united christian qaum was! I dont have to remind you about both the wars- they were fought between christians mostly.
I agree bhaijaan there are problems in muslim world but overall we are okay- atleast we dont fight with each other, alhamdulillah. The reason Pakistanis are respected in the entire gulf region is because we are at advantage because we are muslims. Indians and Bangladeshis (I dont consider them muslims) are NOT respected and welcomed in the Arab world is because they are not muslims.
Afghans are overall nice people. Hamid Karzai studies in India and thats why he’s faithful towards them and the west. We Pakistanis are almost one-third Afghans by blood. Time and again Arab countries have come to Pakistan’s help. Iran is Shia so they carry hatred towards us- I dont count them at all. One rule of thumb when it comes to dealing with the Afghan people all Pakistanis should keep in their minds is- “TREAT AN AFGHAN LIKE A FELLOW MUSLIM BROTHER AND HE WILL TREAT YOU LIKE ONE”. We are trying to become too modern and have forgotten the ties of blood and caring we had for centuries with the Afghans. In turn they express their frustation… got it? Yaar Mushy should hold election and let Maulan Sahib to power and you’ll see how Pakistan changes!

Moin don't tell me what the VERMIN Afghans are like or not like... I know them better than you because half my family is from Peshawar and the place is overflowing with them, there's so many of the vermin that whenever I go back home and visit my cousins in Peshawar I’m literally stepping over the Afghans, and they stink like they wear Eau-De-Sheep or something, they talk about their great Afghanistan whilst living off our crumbs that I wonder why they can’t just go F off back home, let me tell you even if we gave them all our wealth and possessions they will still not be satisfied and will hate us even more. From what I hear from my friends they exhibit the same Kameenapun in Karachi and give even those from NW Pakistan a bad name whereas Pakistanis wherever they come from are actually far more sophisticated and refined than rag-wearing Afghans.
Don’t talk to me about racial similarities with Afghans, Pakistan also has racial similarities with Iran and Khalistan (Indian occupied Punjab), you’re probably some Punjabi or Mohajir and your only similarities with them are in your head, Afghans don’t even like Pakistani Pashtuns who they do have some similarities with, they betrayed them and gave them to the British and now want them (or rather their land) back.. When they see a female Pakistani Pashtun singer from our side they say to Pakistani Pashtuns you have no honour yet their own daughters are dating Indian boys in UK or working as prostitutes in Pakistan. They look down on Pakistani Pashtuns so who the hell is you to try and get cosy with them? Tum kis baagh ki mooli ho miyaan? You’re just a dallkhor Hindustani in their eyes.
