Nath

One of my school teachers in Pakistan told us that nath is a symbol of slavery and no woman should ever wear a nath. I didn’t believe her and I thought she’s just being sariyal.

But is there any truth to it?

Re: Nath

Maybe she was refering to nath in a cow's nose?

Re: Nath

Nathnee means the same thing no?

I don't know why the teacher said what she said. I'd be tempted to say no though, she probably just didn't like it herself. But I do know this, it doesn't really suit everyone. Barely 1 out of a 30.

Re: Nath

Your ustaani was a weirdoo :vivo:

Not that I am fond of naths anyway.

Re: Nath

May be she was referring to the ' NaaTh uttar'waii ' rasam at Bazar-e-husuN :D

Re: Nath

there is some symbolic truth to it.....I was discouraged from it with the same reasoning.
apparently when female slaves were purchased way back when the owner would put a ring through her nose to signify his ownership......this was the story I was told......wish I had the time to verify it.

Re: Nath

I have heard different things, more history related.

Re: Nath

I like naths but yah don't know why there is such a dislike for them?

Re: Nath

And I think in Africa this things is considered in women slavery but Islam is way much more before that. And I have heard different islamic history about that.

Re: Nath

^ yes...I was given the history related stories too including the one about the pharaoh's wife who, in an attempt to make her husband's mistress ugly, had her ears and nose pierced multiple times......

Re: Nath

No I have heard that when Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.) married hazrat Hajra (A.S.), Hazrat Sara who was Hazrat Ibrahim's first wife and mother of Hazrat Ishaaq (bani Israeel) swore on Hazrat Hajra that she will cut her three parts. But Hazrat Ibrahim came in between and then you have to complete what you swore so at that time Hazrat Ibrahim pierce holes in Hazrat Hajra's ears and pierce her nose. I heard it a long time ago and I have to find references before that and right now I can't remember any thats why I didn't want to mention. But read it and search it yourself.

Re: Nath

Interesting replies. I remember my teacher mentioning the African slaves part too.

Re: Nath

I was told this one in the context of Islam.......but the pharaoh's story was a history lesson.
