uff faisal bhai jaan why do u have to miss my point by a mile always??? i say the same thing too.. my sore point has been with the desi obsession with anything arab.. not so much with what ppl name their kids.. i used the naming thing as an example for my argument and not as the basis… next thing u gonna come up with a census report from attock and show me how local (culturally relevant) the names there are..

Well, I know you don’t like obsessing about things Arabic, but why impose your views on everyone else? You have to understand that Urdu is the prevailing language in Pakistan, and urdu includes words from many different languages.

Also, when Yusuf Khan wanted to make it big in Bollywood, he got himself the screen name of Dilip Kumar. Some can argue whats wrong with Yusuf Khan, and why are Indians so close-minded about muslim-sounding names for him to make the change. I think he did what he felt was the better decision. You disagree?

Umer, Mawiah, Sufyan, Tymmiah, Aurengzeb, Abdul Wahab, etc. are all good names......

Unless if you are a decendent of a hindu or just a punjabi, then Chamar, Lohar, Jaat, Tayli, Tamoli, Jugga, and etc. shall suffice....

first i did not impose my views on anybody.. i did not say people shud name their kids X, Y or Z.. i only criticized the wannabeism in desis.. that i am entitled to, i hope, as GS is supposedly democratic (a paki oxymoron).. besides, ur example of yusuf khan is wrong as in WRONG again.. he had no reason to change his name.. people have not issues with muslim names… we had the talat mahmoods, the muhammad rafis, and now the khans.. did shahrukh have to change his name to krishna kumar or something? or did salman become robert pereira?? dude, pls don give ancient examples that have no relevance in this age.. further, when dilip saab came to bollywood, india was united.. and the-forefathers-of-modern-pakis were also indians, even they didnt bother the name change.. in fact they welcomed it and did not call him yusuf khan as the name change was his personal decision.. but see in the mughal-e-azam thread, so many fanatics preferred to call him yusuf khan.. other than a film buff who’s gonna know yusuf better than dilip??? that’s the levels pakis have descended to?? why hate our own culture and languages??? agreed a few could be staunch anti-hindu but how is “dilip kumar” even remotely hindu?? its just a sanskrit name..
