Re: name of the city/ town in Pakistan, and its roots?
MANSEHRA
(District of HAZARA Division)
Mansehra's north falls Gilgit, on its South, Abbotababd
then towards East, AJK and towards West, Kohistan and Swat.
**
It has three tehsils; itself-Mansehra, Buttgram and Balakot.**
Mansehra's history goes 600 years back when Ameer Taimoor
conquered this area an gave its adinistration to the TURKS.
**
After the Turks, it was possessed by DURRANIS..and finally
its division went to various Tribes and Sardars....and as we
are used to it **(even on GS forums..)
**the result of the continuous infights between the
Sardars & Jirgas, amongst themselves
the SIKHS took advantage and took the control of entire area.
Hari Sigh Nalwa mae a fort named 'HAR KISHAN GARH' and
made a small hamlet beside which became **
**popular by the name of Haripurgarh.**
Mansehra is rich in mountains..as high as **
*4000 ft above sea level.
*
**It receives heavy snowfall...
Its current population is 1.5 million.....62% Man and 93% Woman
with very less education...though Mansehra has a college.
The nearest railway station is Havelian.
Mansehra is quite close to Abbotabad (infact almost a part
of Abbotabad) and therefore it has proximity with Pakistan
Milatary Academy (PMA) at Kakul...about 5 minutes drive
from Abbotabad main city.
Mansehra and Abbotabad have scores of beauty spots
for picnics with riverside roads. The beauty of cruising
in your car towards Balakot...is heaven on earth.
Recently constructed road from Abbotabad...via the
corner point of Mansehra to Nathiagali and of course
Murree...is mesmerizing. I could never enjoyed a drive
we did after WILCO's shoot at Kakul in 2007 March.
You must stop-over at Mansehra
when you go to Abbotabad.
