LANDI KOTAL (NWFP)
3518 feet above sea-level, the last railway stop
of Pakistan Railways, LANDI KOTAL is essentially affiliated with FATA (Federal Agency for Tribal Areas).
A small Industrial hamlet which has factories to make SILK (RESHMEE) Clocth, its chief business
is the sale of imported clothing, cigarettes, and other important items including revolvers, pistols and other arms.
Political Agents under Khyber Agency have their
Head Offices here including a Fort.
LANDI KOTAL doesn't have a history...but its
more than 6000 persons population has
a school and college.
LANDI KOTAL is situated wee bit before
the border of Pakistan-Afghanistan..
which is North-East of LK.
Why the name LANDI KOTAL.... it is said that the first house at LK
was made by some family which carried
the surname as KOTAL.....hence there could be a possibility that LANDI could be
the daughter or wife of Mr. Kotal.... but that still needs to be researched.
**I was at Landi Kotal in 1997.....for an hour
and so scary was it...that every person around me looked ** like...you know who?

and those persons still allowed u to come back in one piece, this proves it was only ur perception.
I have been in Peshawar and neighbouring areas many times, i have found people of these region most friendly and caring, even if they don't speak or understand ur language they will do level best to help you out.
Any way the name Peshawar, has history.
The word has been drived from word Paisha -wr, means skilled person, later converted to Peshawar.

Please dont tell me about PATHAN hospitality....my real Bhabi (younger brother's wife is a Pathan from Peshawar while my elder sister has lived in Peshawar for 07 years as the Head of Beaconhouse School....and visiing Peshawar by car from Islamabad has been my favorite ride.
It was by LAMBRETTA scooter that I first visited the barra of LK in 1966 and lastly in 2002 by car.....
If there is hospitality anywhere in Pakistan...nobody can beat that of NWFP......

CHAMAN
(Baluchistan) Also known as The City Of GRAPES, Chaman is the large hamlet of Pishin District
some 120 Km from Quetta and about 835 Km from Karachi, and about 5 KM away from the Afghan Border. In 1947, its populaton was 10,000..which now currently
stands at 125,000.
Before partition, CHAMAN was the main supplier
of GRAPES to Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi by
Vans & Trains...claded under ice...and there
they were popularly known as
"CHAMAN KA MOTIA"
CHAMAN has a Municipality and a Degree College.
Its roads lead towards Afghanistan and Iran
conveniently and has a continuous trade importance.
There is no significant chapter in history
as to how CHAMAN got its name..but moe
realistic thought said to have found place
in history...translates CHAMAN the name
suitable to the FRUITS gardens...the area
is blessed with..and CHAMAN, as we all know, stands for GARDEN or LUSH GREEN FIELDS
which grow fruits.
Chaman is a beautiful place and quite many
Quetta-ites also go for picnics there.
