Is there any difference b/w namaz and salat? I thought both were are same.

Err.. I am totally confused ... I am not sure what article is saying but Namaaz and Salaat has same difference as Roza and Soam

I think the article says the following :-
- Namaz is not a quranic word but a pahlvi word
- Namaz only means namaz whereas salat includes namaz in addition to it, some more exposition to it.
- This make it clear that a person subservient to Allah, in whatever phase of life that be, accomplishes his assigned duties in accordance with the Divine Laws, is sheerly accomplishing the functioning of Salaat. It needs no identification of any time, place or any form fixed for it. But there are a few places in the Quran, where the word Salaat has been used for a particularly conspicuous act.”

i'm not sure whether i understood completely what the article says & i'm not sure how far the article is correct.

Hopefully someone on here will come along & give satisfactory answers.

Ok, I don't quite get it... so when I am saying my prayers, it is salat, right? If it is salat then what exactly is namaz?

one of those words that we have used and associated with salaat. no difference since intention of using the word namaaz is same as salaat....... namaz=salat=prayer

They're one and the same thing, at least in the context that we use the terms in.

so i was at home and talking about the sunnah, and someone in my family interupts me and says " its sunnat, not sunnah"...urgh....pple need to know the difference between arabic and urdu/persian..for example..

Hadith in Arabic....Hadees in Urdu

Sunnah in Arabic....Sunnat in Urdu

Jannah in Arabic...Jannat in Urdu

Salah in Arabic....Namaz in Urdu

Juz in Arabic.....Para in Urdu

Niyyah in Arabic...Niyyat in Urdu

simple .. namaz is prayer and salaat with the letter ''Saad'' too means prayer and salaat with the letter ''seen'' means peace and blessing.

i dunt know why you ppl go in to googling stuff and pull up an essay and pages and pages of stuff ..

Yes, the daily prayers that Pakistanis call namaz is called salaah in Arabic. If you said to an Arab I am going to read namaz now, they will look at you all confused because this is not an Arabic word

I think you mean salaam not salaat
