Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Okay in very plain terms:

Fajr: 2 rakats
Duhr: 4 rakats
Asr: 4 rakats
Maghrib: 3 rakats
Isha: 4 rakats + 3 rakats of the compulsory witr prayer.

You pay salam after you are done with all rakats of a prayer. Eg. Salam for fajr is after 2 rakats and salam for isha is twice. One after the 4 rakats and one after the 3 rakats of witr prayers.

Sunnah prayers are optional prayers and can be performed at any time of the day. Mostly people combine them with the compulsory prayers (the fard rakats).

Witr prayers on the other hand are almost like the fard prayers. Witr has an odd number of rakats prayed in it with the final rakat prayed separately. Eg. you can pray 1 rakat in witr to 11 rakats in witr.

I hope I covered all your questions.

Salat

Here you go.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Hadeel u for got abt the Sunnah muaqqadah

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Fajr: 2 Sunnat (Mu'akkadah), 2 Fard
Dhuhr: 4 Sunnat, 4 Fard, 2 Sunnat, 2 Nafil
Asr: 4 Sunnat (Ghair Mu'akkadah), 4 Fard
Maghrib: 3 Fard, 2 Sunnat (Mu'akkadah), 2 Nafil
'Isha: 4 Sunnat (Ghair Mu'akkadah), 4 Fard, 2 Sunnat, 2 Nafil, 3 Witr (Wajib), 2 Nafil

Levels of Importance:

Fard (Highest) (Sinful if missed, Must read all the time)
Wajib/Witr (Second importance) (Must read all the time, prayer incomplete without it)
Sunnat (Mu'akkadah) (Third importance) (Recommended to read all the time)
Sunnat (Fourth importance) (Can read all the time)
Sunnat (Ghair Mu'akkadah) and Nafil (Fifth importance) (Should not read all the time)

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

witr can be don 2+1 according to some fiqh.

also, nawaafil and sunnat-e-Ghair mo'akkida [recommended salaat] are NOT required as the term suggests. it is customarily done by large number of Muslims...someone, who has just started to pray, will find it cumbersome so all the nawaafil can be deferred until the time he/she is ready to do extra namaaz.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

^ what I heard from scholars that one should never count nafls and even Sunnat Ghair Mu'akkadah as part of any Salat. I am not even sure where Nafls came from as part of 5 prayers, as Nafls are Nafls and you can do 0 or 100, but they are not part of Namaz. If they were done by prophet then they were sunnat, not nafl.

Not only that, Nafls add to the the total number of rakaats and make the prayers intimidating . Actual nubmer of rakaat in Isha are 9, but when you add nafl and ghair muakkadah, they become 17. Now ask a teenager to do 17 and he will probably skip. 9 is more encouraging number.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

these numbers for nawaafil are only recommendations and guidelines...you do NOT have to...there is a consensus on those number though.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Just to clarify myself I assumed that she's asking about the fard prayers, that's why I skipped the sunnats and nawafils from the rakat count.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Is tahajjud prayer offered before fajr adhan considered sunnat or nafil?

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Peace TLK

You are probably right ... but that post above is the way I was taught it ... I think if you scrutinise the places where nafil are placed it shows that the following times are okay to offer nafil prayer ...

For example after Fajr there is no nafil, but before dhuhr one can pray nafil (here called sunnah (ghair mu'akkadah) and like wise after dhuhr all the way to 'Asr there is no restriction ... but after Asr there is no nafil because of the prohibition ... also before maghrib there is no sunnah or nafil because of another prohibition and after maghrib one can pray x number of nafil until 'Isha and between 'isha to witr one can pray x number of nafil also - e.g. taraweeh ... and so on ... So I guess the nafils are there to show the permissibility for when extra rakats can be offered.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Tahajjud is a nafil prayer ... it is sunnah in the restpect that Sayyiduna Muhammad (SAW) performed them, but for him (SAW) that prayer was fard, but for the followers the choice was there but we were prohibited from praying them as though they are mandatory.

There are two understandings for the term "Sunnah" - one is something that we were instructed to do but were not classed as mandatory merely recommended, and the other meaning is simply "something the prophet Muhammad (SAW) did" ... in which case all nafils are also sunnah ...

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

KKF, consensus by whom and through which logic? I think Psyah's explanation makes more sense that nafls order is a placeholder just to show in which part of the day, extra rakats can be offered.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Psyah bhai n tlk bhai, Nadz also wants to know Ahtiyat and Salam phairna and different between witr and other rakats I mean how to perform them.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Fatihah

If praying Fard and on third or fourth rakat then Goto 4) Ruku
Else continue

Else Continue

8) Tashhadd - sitting position with hands on thighs near knees, finger nails visible - i.e. don't clasp knees
Attiyhatu lillahi ... etc
AshaduAllah ... (Finger point)

If on second rakat in set of 3 or 4 then Goto 2) Qiyam
If a mistake has been realised and this is last rakat then at this point do one salam to right and then goto 6) Sujood (sajdah sawu) and complete

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

My question is regarding
from wht i heard. **"Rafayadain "....... *and also the hands are held against chest *by the other madhabs.****...... only hanafis don't do it during the prayer....and they also hold hands against waist/navel...........

why is hanafi method different from the other 3?? and i was told that hadith also supports the rafayadain and holding hands against chest..**

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Yes.

Needs very minor change here.

Instead of 'should not' it should say 'may not read all the time'. :)

Also I am under the impression that 2 sunnat in Zuhar/Dhuhar and 2 Sunnat in Isha are Sunnat e Mu'akkada. Please correct me.

If I am correct, then simplified salat regimen would be:

Fajar: 2 Sunnat, 2 Fard = 4

Dhuhar: 4 Fard, 2 Sunnat = 6

As'r: 4 Fard = 4
**
Maghrib:** 3 Fard, 2 Sunnat = 5

Ish'a: 4 Fard, 2 Sunnat, 3 Wit'r = 9

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Peace diwana

For Sunnat of Dzuhur yes they are mua'akkadah ... but the reason why the nuwafil should not be read all the time like a normal sunnat is to distinguish them from the sunnat ... I believe there are subtle differences within the sub-hanafis (Barelvis and Deobandis) regarding the nawafil.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

Peace NomiCA

They all have different ways to pray ... Some do rafayadain and leave hands some do it and re-clasp the hands - the hanbalis place the hands the highest and some sub-hanafi groups place their hands below the navel, and some just above the navel ... Some beat the devil finger many times - some do it once ... That Malikis will not pray with hands clasped at all and always have their hands to the side.

Re: namaz help please-in detail?

what do the hadith say ??
