NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution against US drone strikes in Pakistan, calling them a violation of “the charter of the United Nations, international laws and humanitarian norms.”

The resolution, jointly moved by Naeema Kishwer Khan, Maulana Ameer Zaman, and Shania Akhtar Ali, condemned the strikes in Pakistan’s tribal areas, calling for them to be immediately stopped.

The resolution stated: “The House strongly condemns the drone attacks by the allied forces on the territory of Pakistan, which constitute violation of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international laws and humanitarian norms. Such drone attacks must be stopped forthwith.”

The resolution was unanimously adopted by both the treasury and the opposition parties.
Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Lt-Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch there was consensus on the stoppage of drone attacks as such attacks violate the country’s sovereignty.

He said drone attacks were proving counter-productive and that the government wants the stoppage of drone attacks by building pressure on the allied forces.

A drone attack which killed former Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Hakimullah Mehsood had already sabotaged the peace process, he said.

He further said that the government had also raised the issue in a meeting with the US defence minister on Monday and that it was peacefully pursuing the issue through diplomatic means.

Terrorism was increasing instead of declining , we need to move with national consensus on these issues and parties should not take solo flights in this regard, he added.

Why not?

At least once again, people have hundreds of more prominent names to blame, to abuse and to moan about. Poor Immy must be feeling a little relieved.

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

Even if the whole world speaks against drones in one voice, it will still be only IK to be called Taliban Khan.

Hagel warns Pakistan leaders over border protests

**RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned Pakistani leaders Monday that if they don’t resolve protests stalling some military shipments across the border with Afghanistan, it could be difficult to maintain political support in Washington for an aid program that has sent billions of dollars to Islamabad, defense officials said.

In response, the officials said, Hagel received assurances from the Pakistanis that they would take “immediate action” to resolve the shipment problem. The officials did not provide details on how that might be done.

Just last week, anti-American protests along one of the primary border crossing routes in Pakistan prompted the U.S. to stop the shipments from Torkham Gate through Karachi last week, due to worries about the safety of the truckers. The protests center on the CIA’s drone program that has targeted and killed many terrorists, but has caused civilian casualties.

The defense officials said Hagel described a political reality on Capitol Hill that could complicate support for the billions of dollars of aid Pakistan now receives. It was Hagel’s intent to try and pre-empt any problems with the aid, said the officials who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the private meetings publicly on the record.

Hagel had back-to-back meetings Monday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the new army chief, Gen. Raheel Sharif, in a move to further repair what has been a strained and sputtering relationship between Washington and Islamabad. Defense officials said Hagel is first high ranking U.S. official to meet with the Army chief, who took over at the end of last month.

After leaving Islamabad, he flew to Saudi Arabia where he is meeting with Crown Prince Salman, and then to Qatar, where he will speak to troops on Tuesday.

During the Pakistan meetings some of the more contentious issues also were raised, including Islamabad’s opposition to ongoing CIA drone strikes and Washington’s frustration with Pakistan’s reluctance to go after the Haqqani terrorist network, which operates along the border and conducts attacks on U.S. and coalition troops in Afghanistan. The officials acknowledged that little progress was made other than to agree to continue talking.

Sharif’s office said in a statement the prime minister and Hagel had “in-depth exchanges on a whole range of issues of mutual interest” including bilateral defense, security cooperation and Afghanistan. Sharif’s office also said the prime minister conveyed Pakistan’s deep concern over continuing U.S. drone strikes, “stressing that drone strikes were counter-productive to our efforts to combat terrorism and extremism on an enduring basis,” the statement said.

Oh Ab kiya hoga!

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

Don't worry he will give out another statement after a blast that why don't we negotiate with them. Limelight would be back on him! :D

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

These NA resolutions dont mean jack if not implemented. We have had those in the past as well. It is sad that our people will come out on the streets for inane things but wont come out on the streets for national/sovereign issue.

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

So these hypocrites call APCs, pass resolutions against drones and for peace talks and then blame Imran Khan when he takes any action to implement. Media asks him how dare you leave Pakistan (even for medical appointment) at this crucial time when fed government was holding APC. He is called Taliban Khan just because he actually believes talks can resolve the issue whereas others only believe peace talks can resolve the issue while sitting in APCs but change their mind as soon as they come out???

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

Imran Khan should have supported these drones rather than supporting "maut ke saudagar". What has he done the murders of his three MPAs and many other supporters of PTI who were killed in cold blood by the same "maut ke saudgar" he was supporting?

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

What exactly can he do? Create a barbarous military wing like PPP and their evil twin MQM and let loose murderes on the streets?

Thousands of civilians have died in this conflict and you want him to start a public campiagn seeking revange for his three MPAs? Why the hell do we have an army for? Weren't those MPAs Pakistani? What's stopping the army from doing anythingabout their killing?

More importantly what has the army done for the recent killing of their General? Or is that also Imran's job?

What PPP and CJ has done for salman taseer?

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

What has PPP done to punish BB's killers? They were in the Fed Gov for five long years, why couldn't they finish off the maut ke sudagar?

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

You mean PPP leadership hanging itself? :cb:

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

There is no military wing of PPP. Get your facts corrected. When it comes to IK's brainless rhetoric, discussing with you guys is like banging head to the wall. Keep it up.

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

Isn't case against Musharaf active in Pakistani courts? Isn't the biggest "maut ka Saudagar" jahanum raseed hogaya? No suicidal killings after his death. IK and you guys should be thankful to Sam. Pakistan army and government is nonexistent for these 'maut ke saudagar' and IK on the other hand is supporter to them without understanding what he is supporting.

Re: NA unanimously passes resolution against US drone strikes

Do you have any idea what stupid question is this? Wasn't this kana CJ only witch hunt PPP government for his past five years of duty as CJ? What meaningful judgement had he taken? On top of it he saved his corrupt son.

If CJ of Pakistan sit on a proved murder case with his big fat ugly butt on it, what is the fault of PPP in that? Can you explain?
