Anwar Pahsah,

No and Local PPP leaders are repeatedly asking the party leadership to provide them a chace to context but I think this could not be happened. This was decieded after 2008 election to not to context by-election agaist each other at vacated seats and that party will have a right which has previously won it.
This is quite stupid. PPP should abondon this idiotic compromise now. Let them sit in oppostion. If it wants to get PPP seats in Punjab it has to come forward and fight agianst PML(N). That is democracy. Otherwise PPP will be restricted to Sindh only. That is not a good sign for a true national party.
Re: NA 55 bye elections Sheikh Rasheed is in the race
I have stsrted this thread months ago and now this has become a major issue .See what Sheikh says today.
Sheikh Rashid lashes out at Punjab govt Updated at: 2021 PST, Thursday, October 01, 2009
LAHORE: Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, President Awami Muslim League (AML) Thursday said that the by-polls should not be delayed due to security threats as if the government cannot hold election in four districts, then its own existence would no more be justifiable.
Addressing a press conference here at Lahore Press Club, Sheikh Rashid said Punjab government tells law and order situation to be the prime cause of by-polls delay; while, general elections were not put off even on Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.
He said Punjab government has no justification a hand to suspend the by-polls; otherwise, its own existence would no more be justified.
Sheikh said the PM’s on-demand statement is nothing different from the writ petition for the Punjab government, adding if the politicians take resort to the courts for political decisions, then their political esteem would be jeopardized.
The court is going to deliver an important verdict and it would be in favour of the people, he hoped.
Re: NA 55 bye elections Sheikh Rasheed is in the race
PPP has a larger votebank than Sheikh Rashid (and his nayee koori party) in Pindi, though its pretty much diminished because alot of the old Pindi PPPP stalwarts such as Naheed Khan have left the party. This is an obvious PML[N] stronghold...
So why the are running from their strong hold ?
I have told you one month ago that they have no choice exept to run away. See what PML N law minister is saying while Sh Rasheed is never found afraid, you have read what he is saying but why N$ is afraid everyone can understand?
LHC adjourned the hearing for 6th of October.

Re: NA 55 bye elections Sheikh Rasheed is in the race
Shiekh Rasheed is a nobody now, he has no reason to be afraid of anything, because like I said, apart from going to some talk shows, his political career is pretty much over, unless some dictator comes in and offers him some ghaas which I doubt because of his lack of popularity now.

Saudis told Nawaz to honour deal with Musharraf
Monday, October 05, 2009
JEDDAH: The 10-year deal struck by PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif with former president Pervez Musharraf with the guarantee of Saudi Arabia is the main hurdle for Nawaz to contest elections, informed sources said on Sunday.
However, a PML-N spokesman categorically rejected the report, saying it was the work of those who had fled the country.
According to sources in Saudi Arabia, Nawaz was told during his meeting with Saudi King Shah Abdullah in Ramazan that if he wanted to keep intact his friendship with the king, he should honour the deal reached with Musharraf.
The sources said that according to the agreement both Nawaz and Shahbaz could neither contest elections nor take part in political activities. Despite this, Shahbaz contested polls, and the Saudi King has reportedly told Nawaz that at least he should honour the deal.
Nawaz and his family signed the agreement on December 2, 2000, the sources added. President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had also been informed about the reason why Nawaz could not contest elections.
Re: NA 55 bye elections Sheikh Rasheed is in the race
My thread was only about NA 55 but these by-elections have become revival of our old days and dirty plays and now perhaps you can understand who are behind these dirty plays.

Nawaz Sharif unlikely to contest by-election
By Syed Irfan Raza
Monday, 05 Oct, 2009
ISLAMABAD: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif is not likely to contest the forthcoming by-elections in Punjab and party officials are reluctant to say anything about the reason for his reluctance to take part in the polls.
Private TV channels reported on Sunday about an alleged arrangement between Mr Sharif and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia under which the PML-N chief has been asked by the king not to contest elections till next year.
Pakistan Muslim League-N has sought postponement of the by-elections through an application submitted to the Lahore High Court on security grounds and its leaders are still not clear what would be the decision of Mr Nawaz Sharif if the court asked the Election Commission to go ahead with the polls.
‘We will abide by the court order, but a final decision about whether or not Mr Nawaz Sharif will contest the polls will be the sole prerogative of Mr Sharif himself,’ PML-N chief spokesman Sidiqul Farooq said.Media reports said that under a controversial accord between Mr Sharif and former President Pervez Musharraf in 1999, the PML-N chief did not take part in general elections because he had been asked by King Abdullah to abide by the deal.
A PML-N leader, however, rejected reports of Mr Nawaz Sharif not contesting the by-elections.
‘Media reports about any restriction on Mr Nawaz Sharif from contesting polls till 2010 are baseless and part of a disinformation campaign against Mr Sharif and his party,’ PML-N spokesman Ahsan Iqbal said.
He claimed that Saudi king had not asked Mr Sharif to stay away from elections till 2010 and said that taking part in the polls was a constitutional right of the PML-N chief.
‘There was no agreement between Mr Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf and it was only an understanding between Mr Sharif and the Saudi royal family,’ he said.
Party sources said there was a view in the PML-N that the PML-N chief would be in a better position if he stayed outside the parliament and called the shots from Raiwind, instead of becoming the leader of opposition in the National Assembly.
If Nawaz Sharif takes part in the election it will be almost a walkover for him because nobody will think of contesting against him, especially for the 123 seat in Lahore.
Sources in the PPP said there was a consensus in the ruling party that Mr Sharif had pinned hopes on mid-term general elections and because of that reason he did not want to become part of the present parliament.
‘The PML-N chief may be thinking that he can call the shots and meet his targets by keeping himself out of the present parliament and prepare grounds for mid-terms polls,’ the PPP sources said.
When asked about reasons for Mr Sharif reluctance to sit in the present National Assembly, Mr Sidiqul Farooq said a federal intelligence agency had hinted that terrorists might target the PML-N leader during electioneering and he had been advised not to take part in the polls.
‘But in case the court directs holding of polls, the party will abide by the court order and Mr Sharif will decide about candidates.’
But NS has been great supporter of jehadis, why jehadis want to target their own supporter? It does not make any sense.

** GEO Pakistan**** LHC reserves verdict on by-polls petition** Updated at: 1524 PST, Tuesday, October 06, 2009
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved verdict on a petition filed by Punjab government in a bid to stay the upcoming by-polls in NA-123 (Lahore), NA-55 (Rawalpindi), PP-82 (Jhang) and PP-284 Bahawalnagar.
The court took serious notice for not presenting record by Election Commission of Pakistan and directed deputy attorney general to present the record within 15 minutes.
Justice Saqib Nisar declared that election is mandatory for democracy and rule of constitution. He said Election Commission in its order did not mention anywhere that details submitted by Punjab government has been reviewed completely. Government’s counsel Khawaja Haris said it is evident that Election Commission always consults with the government. Justice Nisar said law will be the winner in case of clash between law and tradition.
The chief of Awami Muslim League Sheikh Rashid in his argument said Election Commission gave full time to Punjab government and government is reluctant to organize by-polls for the sake of its own interests.
Manzoor Hussain Gilani Advocate said maintenance of law and order is provincial government’s responsibility and people should not be suffered.
