Despite spending billions of rupees in this constituency and extensive campaigning, his son won by only 4000+ votes. Come proper general elections, this strongest hold of PPP in punjab may well be lost. Remember, there was no campaigning by PTI. Dont forget the turn out too.

Hamir Mir also said the same thing that these guys have been claiming to beat their opponent by 50,000 votes and will at least get 90,000 votes so even if they win by 4000-5000 then it should be a big shock for PPP government considering the fact that whole government has been campaigning for Gilani whereas his opponent had no official support or campaign. Blillions of rs were spent to ensure victory for corrupt Gilani family.
One of the biggest factor that has also been ignored and PPP rep himself mentioned this in Kashif Abbasi's program that these elections are on old voter list which is bogus. Another couple of hundred thousand people will be added to this list (most of them very young and first time voters).
Only thing that will go in Gilani's favour in general election is if PMLN somehow give ticket to Shaukat Bosan as PTI's candidate will be his other brother (Sikandar Bosan).
It should be a HUGE moral victory for Bosan considering the fact that this was bye election

PTI candidate? PTI endorsed the independent candidate. He was not running on behalf of PTI, neither did PTI run a campaign for him. PTI and PML-N favored Bosan more because he was running against Mr. Hajj Scandal.
As far as the gaddis are concerned, the Gilanis and the Shahs and the Jatois will always win a seat or two from their slaves, so it is not out of the ordinary to have seen Jr. Gilani win a seat. Now his father will perhaps get some time to become a 'practicing' pir.

Read above two replies. A seat that is normally considered a given for PPP, they won it after such a hard time... despite no campaigning by PML-N or PTI. And had it been someone else other than Pir Gillani, he would have lost.
Consider a different constituency which may usually be fought more closely and with official endorsements from opposition parties, PPP will be in trouble. But aap khush ho layn. choti choti khushiyan.. roti kapra makaan na sahi, aik inconsequential bye election victory hi kaafi hai jiyalon k liye.
