N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

Looks like a forceful slap on those who were talking about negotiations with Taliban. I wonder when IK will start dharna against own army? Drones are the best option for targeting key ‘maut ke saudagar’ rather than this kind of action for which chances of innocent victims are high.
Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed - DAWN.COM

MIRAMSHAH: Pakistani troops pounded suspected militant hideouts in a lawless tribal district for a third day Friday, as the death toll rose to 40 and local residents claimed the operation had left a number of civilians dead.

Clashes between security forces and militants have been rocking North Waziristan tribal agency, on the Afghan border, since Wednesday evening when a suicide bombing killed five soldiers at a checkpoint in the town of Mir Ali.

Militants attacked security forces on Wednesday as they returned after rescuing soldiers wounded in the bombing, prompting the military respond with mortars, artillery and helicopter gunships in a search operation to catch the insurgents.

The death toll from the clashes rose to at least 40 on Friday as four more bodies were recovered from the debris of two hotels that came under heavy fire after fleeing militants used them to take refuge.

**The military says all of those killed in the operation were Taliban militants, but locals said many of those who died in the hotels were drivers forced to stay there by a curfew imposed on Tuesday.
**
**Nazir Khan Wazir, the member of parliament for the area, said most of those killed and wounded were not militants.

“Most of those killed and wounded were innocent civilians. People are facing a terrible time. They are trapped in their houses,” Wazir told AFP.
**
**“Dozens of houses have been damaged by shelling. Residents are also facing food shortages.” Wazir appealed to the government to stop the bombardment to allow locals to bury their dead and take the wounded to hospital.

The number and identity of those killed could not be verified independently because of the ongoing search operation and curfew. The area is also off-limits to foreign journalists and aid groups.
**
Exchange of fire was also took place late Thursday at Amin checking point in Miramshah, the main town in North Waziristan but with no lose of life.

A senior security official said the search operation was still going on in Mir Ali and surrounding areas.

Maulvi Gul Abbas, an Islamic cleric in Mirali told AFP that residents were not able to sleep for the whole night because of the continuous firing.

“Dozens of houses have been damaged. All those killed inside the houses were local residents,” Abbas said.

North Waziristan is a major hub for Taliban and al Qaeda linked militants in northwest Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous tribal districts.

The region is the focus of the US campaign of drone strikes targeting insurgents, but sustained fighting of the sort seen in recent days is unusual.

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) insurgent group has led a bloody campaign against the Pakistani state in recent years, carrying out hundreds of attacks on security forces and government targets, mainly in the northwest.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

I hope they wipe all of them. No prisoners as they will be released by our judiciary. Wonder what the TTP's wonder boy will do now, maybe another blockade in conjunction with the pious Munnawar.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

100% agree with you as long as 'maut ke saudagar' are the main targets. It is hoped that army will get rid of menace of suicidal bombings and terrorism very soon. If people are allergic to drones, then this is the second best option. No negotiations with these killers.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

According to some journalists many of these people killed were ordinary people, wallah o alam.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

I hope they are not given refuge by the western neighbor.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

Who were those journalists? Ansar Abbasi?
Amazing that they get information from a place where even the army could not go.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

They have probably already set up humanitarian hospitals to treat these agents of theirs.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

Hint was there in the opening post.

Anyways, I was talking of Omar Qureshis tweets, who is very much anti taleban.

“@omar_quraishi: Testimony of eyewitness Malak Gul Saleh Jan: “They [the victims] were out to earn food for their children. The soldiers came after them... "”

“@omar_quraishi: "... killed 25 of them in one restaurant. I testify to the whole of Pakistan that they were neither Taliban nor terrorists. "”

“@omar_quraishi: "Every child, every woman of Waziristan is crying today. I urge the government to recognize one single enemy here .."”

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

There you go all the GS simpletons and political newbies....

Next time you try to create a silly old brouhaha about how poor Pakistan army just sits there and waits for the 'orders' from bunch of politicans to launch a military offensive (A big Capital LOL!!! with exclamation marks), just remember you are talking about Pakistan army who's always been and will always be it's own boss.

Now bring on the arguments the Immi the illuminati boy controls the all the military generals and explain how dare the army launched an operation when His Highness Imran is so against them? Eh?

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

I was very happy on the reports coming out of NWA in the beginning as it was in retaliation of terrorist attack on army men, but the kind of reports coming out are not reassuring .

If that was the case then who attacked the army?. who fired at them? Farishtey?

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

I am not sure how credible such sources of these journalists are. Are they saying that it is not just American drones targeting civilians (unproven) but it is also Pakistan army itself killing its own people?!
In other words, anyone taking action in territory occupied by extremists should stop.

How is such rhetoric from supposedly "anti-Taliban" people like Omer Quraishi going to curb terrorism from the country?

My view is that drone attacks are much better and more effective in taking down the terrorists than such army operations. There is much less chance of civilian casualties in the case of drone attacks. So anyone concerned about civilians should support drone actions against Taliban.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

1+

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

I don't know how people want to purge the country of terrorists. Whenever there is a bullet or a shell fired, there will always be a chance that some civilian may accidentally be killed instead of the desired target. One must realize that war is hell, and civilian casualties cannot be totally avoided.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

Here I agree with you, army should not have started this offensive without the approval of Ganja Sharif (Badmaash) under constitution. But who knows he had given such secret approval in recent visit with CAOS Sharif. This Ganja Badmaash is very much unreliable and big lair when it comes to his glory of crown and Dollars, EU, Riyals, British Pounds…etc.

Double dealing Ganja perhaps using this onslaught on ‘maut ke saudagar’ as a last resort already.:hbk:

Pakistan’s new army chief defies terrorist attacks - DAWN.COM

PESHAWAR: Despite reiterating full support to the ongoing government-led peace process with the Taliban militants, Pakistan’s new army chief General Raheel Sharif Saturday vowed to not tolerate any more terrorist attacks.

During his visit to the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar, he emphasised that terrorist attacks will not be tolerated and will be responded effectively, said a statement issued by the ISPR.

Ruling out military action against proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as its first preference, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government has promised to persuade insurgents to lay down their weapons through peace negotiations.

PM Sharif, earlier this week, said the government will use “force as a last resort.”

The Pakistani Taliban, however, have dismissed the government’s peace initiative saying they have information that plans are already under way for a military operation, adding the insurgents were ready for battle.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

wah wah...maza aa gaya....TTP's Wonder Boy! i love this term

I cannot believe i used to support Imran Khan so passionately....i never thought for one second that one day i will see him and Munawar haasan of Jamat Islami together on terrorism issue...ahhhhh that was so painful for me to absorb...i felt someone cut my soul in half...

that munaar hassan who refused to call our amry jawans saheed
that munawar hassan who called zalim mahsood a shaheed
that munawar hassan who called malala a CIA agent and taliban attack on her a topi drama

IK sided with that Munawar Hassan....took stage with him...arranged protests in cooperation with his party...and I supported that IK....shame on me!

lets make no mistake..IK considers taliban innocent...no matter what he says, deep down there he supports them ....he even called mahsood "our own men fighting against USA".... and then he said "USA cannot keep on killing our men"...our men? they are our men?

IK ... yaad rakho you are on the wrong side of the history on the terrorism issue and your politics will be finished because of that..mark my words

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

^^^^:k: well said.

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

Break heart is IK's old habit before was only girls now his supporters(^。^)

Re: N. Waziristan clashes: Troops pound militant hideouts, 40 killed

Read the tweets of Omar Qureshi or taha siddiqui, they are both pro NWA operations but they are tweeting against this attack for the past two days, good example of damned if you do damned if you dont.

Civilian casualties always tragic, but irony galore. Those outraged about military op casualties the very ones clamoring for military ops.
