Myths and bodybuilding

ok guys lets talk about some of the well known myths about bodybuilding that we all come across..

ill start with few that i’ve heard manyyy times,

**Dont start working out…u’re height will stunt

**Wrong!. This makes me laugh. People believe in stereotypes. When you ask them to back off their statement, they really have no answer whatsoever, all they say is i’ve heard about it. This is ridiculous. Your height depends upon ur genes. If you have genes of becoming..nothing can stop it..:emmy:

**To have a model-type body, you need to cut fat altogether

**Wrong. You need fat! Period. " how many fat grams does that have in it". How many times have we had this line rammed down our throats over the last few years?.. too many!. Some people will mow the word ‘fat’ completely out of their diet and end up looking like Uncle Fester in the process. Fats make up part of all body cells, help us maintain body temperature, and even delay hunger pangs. 'nff said with fats being important.

**In order to get really big, you have to eat a super-high-calorie diet…

** Well, that’s true; you’ll get really big if you eat a super high-calorie diet, but you’ll look like nusrat fateh ali khan’s twin. However, if you want to get big, “lean-tissue wise”, then super-high-calorie diets are probably not for you unless you are one of those very few people with metabolic rates so fast you can burn off these calories just by watchin tv and doing nothing… so guys, yes it is important to eat..but whats even more important is to eat healthy and know what benefit the food u’re eating will give you.

ohh this is another one i just remembered…
**The longer you workout, the better:smack:

**No sir. What makes you think that??.. you’re breaking ur muscles while at gym. You build urself as soon as u step outta the gym. I hope i dont have to back up the reason that i gave you, cuz it seems to make sense to me.

**I workout 7 days a week but im not growing at all

**which hakeem saab told you to workout 7 days a week:halo:… you need rest to recover from the previous workout.. one of the reason could be your low-calorie intake.. you think working out is all that it takes to have muscles?..no it takes years and years of pain ..right food and rest! you’ll not grow even a bit for 10 years if u dont get enough rest and eat carefully.

umm..thats all i could think of right now…come up with some other myths people…!!!

Re: Myths and bodybuilding

oohhh how did i miss that onee… this one was the first one that came into my mind…im surprised how i didnt write this…so here goes another one..

**You’ll start going bald if you start working out

**Bull!!:mad2: … Going bald or not is also genetically determined .. doesnt matter if u workout or not…if u’re destined to go bald , nothing can stop it. It is just an excuse of not lifting weights…thats what it is. It’s got nothing to do with exercise. For those of you who watch WWE would know why people who workout dont go bald…

Re: Myths and bodybuilding

Interesting thread...There are so many myths about bodybuilding. There is also a lot of rubbish out there, which just confuses people.

Re: Myths and bodybuilding

Frozen Fire...you left out such a major one for women!

Women shouldn't life weights because it makes them bulk up.

:D

Re: Myths and bodybuilding

I know working out is great and all but why bodybuilders gotta…be bodybuilders? Like the no neck tiny head kind? they look so weird :bummer:

Re: Myths and bodybuilding

Re: Myths and bodybuilding

yea...they are just ummmmm interesting looking. :D

have you seen the women? it's just not normal.

Re: Myths and bodybuilding

hehe..o ya...thats a good one too... ill back that up too...

wth???...thats absolutely wrong!... due to the fact that do not and cannot produce testosterone hormones ( one of the hormones responsible for building muscles )...as males do...its is just impossible for women to pack up as much muscles by merely touching weights...unfortunately the image that comes in ur mind when u first hear women lifting is that of professional women bodybuilders...unfortunately... those muscles by women are not achieved naturally..they use steroids (synthetic testosterone) and other kinds of drugs to achieve that kind of muscularity ....

hmmm....well there are so many myths that are comin in my minds regarding women lifting weights..so ill just add a couple more....

ok so no offense to any here , this is another one that i've heard.

**Women should not lift weights because it will increase their chest size.

** hahaha!!..now isnt that funny you guys???.. women breasts are composed mainly of fatty tissues. Therefore, it is impossible to increase ur chest size by lifting weights. As a matter of fact , if female's body goes below 12% body fat..their breast size will decrease.Weight training does increase the size of the back, so this misconception probably comes from confusing an increase in back size with an increase in cup size. So the only way to increase your breast size is by gaining fat or getting breast implants...

**If you stop weight training, your muscles will turn into fat. ( for both guys and girls )

**these are muscles we're talking about here.. and fat is totally different thing.. yes it is true to some extent... because the more muscles you have , the higher ur burning off fat even while sitting... so even climbing stairs once a while would maintain ur muscle mass... the only thing that i can come up to actually back up this myth is " what you dont use...you loose " so keep ur body moving and ull keep the muscles mass u have (ofcourse for some time ).....but sooner or later ull have to hit gym if u really wanna maintain it...

ps: whats the point of having huge muscles when ure not strong from inside... so unnecessary...:o

Re: Myths and bodybuilding

lol oh yea Ive heard these 2…my mom keeps telling me bout the last one :smack:

hussain you are getting those because you may be increasing muscle mass too quickly which is causing the skin to stretch. There is nothing you can do to get rid of those stretch marks but to keep it from getting worse you should use less weights in those areas to slow the growth down a bit.

(im just assuming this btw…you may want to consult with others)

Sometimes stretch marks fade as the yrs go by…but there is no guarantee that they will go away completely.
