Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

Help!
Appeared yesterday. Looks kind of like a heat rash but the bumps are a little bigger than the fine “garmi danay” that pop up on kids, and are contained on his face, his hands and halfway up his arms, and a sprinkling on the base of his neck. They’re pale pink.
What could it be? He’s not scratching them or annoyed by them in anyway, thankfully. They’re pinkish and some of them are clustered, some of them are spread out. Nothing on his chest, back or legs.
The only new thing he tried was a few sips of grapefruit juice on Sunday. The bumps were there on Monday when he woke up. Could that be it? What should I do about it?

allergies? bed bugs? dust?

something in the air perhaps? best bet is to see a doctor when you have time.

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

Ok weird, but my daughter has these too. They'll appear for a day and then just vanish. It's not even hot anymore so can't be garmi ke daane. And she'll get them on her face. Only 2-3 at a time.

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

^ see, his are all over his face, and he hasn't had this all summer, so i'm not sure how suddenly they popped up just as its getting cooler. i'm always diligent about using sunscreen on him....

kakee, that slideshow was gross! shudder i'm traumatised but thankfully, its none of those things!

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

not enough vitamin D?
I don't know as I'm not a doctor so really you should take your baby to a pediatrician. Just in case theres something wrong with him.

I know this will be useless advice but try not to panic its probably nothing. Looking it up just scared me even though I don't have a kid.

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

There are no other symptoms...like fever or runny nose etc...??..Right...?
The way you describe them seems to be only on exposed body parts that is face and hands and half way up the arms...Maybe he went outdoors or was in contact with something new like sheets/blankets washed in a new detergent perhaps...?..Might be an allergy to something.
Have they been increasing since the time you noticed them first...??
I would suggest giving his pediatrician a call and letting them know.If they think it is something worrisome, they can ask you to come over.

Hope it goes away soon.iA.

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

^ you're right- its very localised to areas of his body that would be uncovered. and he has no other symptoms, which is why i'm not rushing him to the paed right away. i don't think they've increased since they appeared but i'm keeping a close eye on it. hrm.... i think i'll take him to the walk in near our place.

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

I've seen those on kids...sometimes on the face and my little niece - she's 2 - gets them usually on her tummy and arms.

My sister uses coconut oil on her and that usually works.

Heat rash**What does heat rash look like?**A red rash of spots that feel itchy or prickly. It occurs when pores become blocked – as your toddler sweats, bumps form because blocked glands can’t clear sweat
**Where?**Anywhere on the body, but often in places covered by clothing. “It can also occur in skin creases,” says Nina Goad from the British Association of Dermatologists.
**Who gets it? **Anyone can get it, but babies and young children are more likely to be affected as their sweat glands are under-developed.
What can you do?“Heat rash is a sign your child is too warm, so keep her cool and make sure she isn’t dehydrated,” says Nina. It usually goes away on its own, but ease symptoms with a cool bath and calamine lotion.

Could it be an allergy to the sunscreen?

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

^ he's been using it for months now, sahar... i dont think it would be that.
i took him to the pharmacy and the pharmacist was puzzled- she said some look like heat rash while some spots look like hives, i.e some are scattered and some are like one larger bump.
so i'm taking him to the paed this afternoon to get checked out. i've also noticed his eyes are watering a bit. i don't know if its related to this rash but i'm going to ask about that, too.

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

keep us posted.. hope he feels better son!

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

Could be hives, they look scarier (to moms and dads) but the Doctors take it very lightly. It happened to my lil daughter and they appeared suddenly on her tummy, neck and face, and they appear and go away with Anti Allergy and comes bak within few hours in different shaped bumps. I asked the specialist, and he said it could be due to various reasons, had earlier throat infection or something and it's part is still in body and body's defense mechanism is fighting it off, he prescribed a lot of fluids...that's it. InshaAllah everything will be fine, just do take him to walk in clinic :)

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

my daaughter too have them mostly near her joints, neck, elbows and few here and there. they too wernt itchy... i took it light bcoz there wasnt any fever or nay other irritation. a relative tought me that it might be something like chicken pox. took her to family doc in emergency and he told me its moluscum contagiousum (MC).. and there isnt really anything you can do for it... Take him to doc.

Btw to you live in toronto? can you directly see any pead there?

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

Have doc check him to rule out allergies!

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

sounds like allergies......
iA he will be just fine very shortly......

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

it turns out its a virus. his paed said its pretty common for kids under two, should clear up in a few days and to give him benadryl for it. whew!

Re: Mystery bumps on kid's face, arms and neck

so unfortunately, the rash is persisting. i think i have to take him back to the paed- its itching much more now that it was initially so we've been giving him benadryl but i'd like to know how to make it go away. its just hundreds of tiny little bumps all over his face, except for a few spots where they've bled a little and scabbed over. in the meantime, i keep moisturizing his face to prevent the itching.
