I really think though that the colour/design you chose for your wedding is a personal choice. Apni apni pasand hoti hai.
I had decided way in advance that I wanted a traditional looking mehroon lehnga for my own wedding. WHy? Because that’s the dulhan look I grew up with. I don’t think there’s any color that suits a tradional desi bride better than red or mehroon 
(just like goray look good in white) ANyhow, while shopping I obviously saw a LOT of different color combinations but nothing atrracted me more than mehroon and so I went on a bought one!
Everyone has their own pasand, I don’t think you should go by what’s in and what’s out… go for what YOU feel good in
