Hope this helps anyone. The wedding was on Aug 9, 2008 in KHI. The hotel is owned by my daddy so I got much help from the hotel staff and decorators there for the decor (as I planned out nothing but the mehndi stage) and hotel chefs and Chef Zakir for all the events’ menu and… food decor.
Mayon…
The DJ was on that white table all the way in the back, you can’t see the dance floor but it was on the right hand side…
Mehndi…
The Dance Floor…
My fav, the ice sculptures…
Baraat…
Yes, there were over 600 people invited. And yes, some (read:most) of them I did not know.
Hotel chefs and Chef Zakir decided to be creative and made these cool things out of chocolate (the roosters and fish sculptures) and carved the melons into amazing flowers and birds…
The flower bed…
In retrospect, I feel there were so many things I could have done with the decor specially since I had so much staff, professional decorators, flower arrangement people, flower suppliers at my disposal, but unfortunately didn’t get much time to plan. However, everyone still had an awesome and memorable time!
P.S. Mods, feel free to merge this with an existing decor thread if need be.
Ramada Plaza Karachi. Surprisingly, the weather was very nice in KHI in august and we were afraid it might rain and then we'd have to move everything inside but it didn't and everyone was dancing for hours and no one complained about being hot and sweaty so I'm pretty sure it wasn't that hot and the sculptures managed to be like that the entire night.
Chef Zakir doesn't work at any hotel in KHI, except at Ramada Plaza and that too only on Sunday, we have him for 'Brunch with Chef Zakir on Sunday." That's how we know him. Together with him, we initially had decided to go for a 7 course meal on the wedding then thought against it because we were sure that someof the typical paki guests would go away disgusted at the fact there was only an option of 3-4 dishes for the main course. So in the end we decided to make everyone's life easier and just do the buffet, but it was beautifully set up and the food was amazing. For the mehndi, we had food stalls/tables set up each with a different cuisine, Mexican, Chinese, Italian, American (traditional) burgers and such, Paki (traditional) halwa puri, lassi, and kachoriyan, Paki and Mexican BBQ. The only thing I got to eat unfortunately was a damn burger! And ofcourse there were the salad and desert bars and all sorts of beverages, etc. I did get to eat on the wedding :)
^ The menu sounds amazing...I wish I was there to taste his cuisine! :)
I've usually noticed in my own experience that the bride and groom tend to go away hungry from their own wedding, which they helped to pay for! lol....
the decor and venue looks amazing sumorani! what's the name of the hotel? and where is it located? i love the yellow ice sculptures too..they look like orange iceys :p
haha that's funny. We both missed out on the mehndi food. Looking back, I wish I had actually gone to the food area myself to fill my plate. I was just so busy enjoying the dances. Also, the food was open all night for all the guests, so they could eat whenever they want.
On the wedding though, I had told my parents to have the food sent up to my room and specified what I wanted. however, it started gettign so late, that everyone forgot about the wedding cake that we had to cut, and when me and my husband left to our room i heard they cut the cake themselves and ate it. unfortunately, the retarded photographer didnt take a pic of the cake.
on the valima, we came in the wedding hall, sat down, and were like, bring the food now before we take any pics or whatever, just let us eat. so we got to eat on the wedding and valima. i feel like theres so much a bride and groom miss out on their own wedding. thank god photogs are there!

Sumo, I have the solution for u. Next time u know theres a good wedding booked at your dads hotel, just walk to the food area and help yourself. make up for everything u missed out on. No one will notice, and even if they did, who would they complain to?
Everything is Masha Allah beautiful. I love the mehndi stage the most! Its awesome! I remember Avari Towers in Karachi use dto have some type of agreement with Ramada. I guess yours is a different hotel. Where is your dad's hotel located?
