As some of you may know, Harris has spent the past couple of months in and out of hospital being treated for Wilms Tumours and recovering from a splenectomy. It was pretty tough for everyone concerned but lately everything seemed to be getting back on track slowly.
Now it seems that Harris may have lost his hearing in one ear, which will inevitably mean further spells in the hospital to have it operated on. He’s having more tests done tomorrow to confirm this but the doctors are certain that they have the correct diagnosis.
Shahreen, have you thought of getting a second and third opinion?
Sorry to hear about that, I will make du'aa for him. The important thing is that he can hear, whether it be with one or both ears. I know people that have had hearing problems (deaf in one ear for example), and it doesnt affect their routine much.
hmmm…i dint know about that shahreen…i hope he recovers fully inshallah
sometimes life can seem unjust..u r so right…but there r so many ppl who have it so much worse..everyday going to the office i see ppl who have both arms or both legs missing, on top of that they r orphans, and poor…so dont feel like that
i am sure Harris will recover fully inshalllah..i can imagine being the mother it must be so tough for you…but hang in there Allah sab theek Kar de ga inshallah

Munni is right shahreen...i do know of ppl who'se hearing in one ear is faulty and they can hear totally fine
Shahreen, it's tough to watch a baby go through all of that, but you have to consider how lucky you are to even have medical opportunities available to you. I've worked in camps and orphanages in Pakistan and there are so many kids who don't even get treatment for minor things.
You’re very blessed to have a supportive husband, family and friends, inshAllah you guys will get through this.
when my brother was 12 an audiologist confirmed that he had severe hearing loss in his right ear. It affected him severely at first. He always had doubts about whether he had heard others correctly and so he avoided having conversations. He tried a hearing aid for a while but it was big and bulky and made him more self-conscious.
Eventually though he adapted himself. He took lipreading classes which boosted his confidence tremendously. Now it only really affects him in the sense that he’s not supposed to be around loud noise, so he avoids concerts and in class he tries to sit in the front.
All I want to say basically is that it can be overcome so have faith
I know that there are children in worse situations and you should be thankful for what you have but part of me still feels that we've been through our share of all this when Harris was initially ill.
Hopefully tomorrow will give more hope on the situation at hand.
I think knowing now what the ailment was/is can help you change your focus to how to remediate the challenge or help him adapt to the changes that will be needed and how he manages them. He is a fanstastic lad I am sure and with proper guidance and help from momma and daddy, it will not even be an issue in due time. Plus, technology is moving faster and faster and can hopefully make this a non issue in a few years.
I hope all is well soon, Shahreen. You have survived a very trying time. Stay strong for Harris, but also remember to give time for your own peace of mind.
