my old school

Was just going through some of my pictures… just today, i scanned and sent these to an old friend of mine, we were friends from grade 2 to grade 7. man the walls of this building harbor so many memories for me. i was one of the most obnoxious and rude students in the school, not kidding… got into trouble with everyone from the principal downwards. Was always late too. Then the ‘lala’ - we used to call them ‘lalas’, i wonder why? - they used to stand by the gates and scold all the late-comers. The ‘lalas’ were also the people on the bus, they helped the little kids get on the bus.

i know the pictures aren’t going to mean anything for anyone else, but for me - they’re priceless. My happiest times were spent at this school, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. oh yeah and the school’s name is Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Arab Pakistani School… cuz guess which dictator funded it. :~/

The masjid (in the second batch of pictures) was located just to the right of the school. The pic of the cultural centre was where they hosted all the Pakistani functions in the city.

If it looks like a very run-down institution - that’s because it was, even back then. i am not certain how it is now, but when i attended it, it wasn’t one of the most elite schools in the city. These pictures were taken earlier this year. There were other far better and more prestigious Pakistani schools. But for me, this one will always take up a special spot.

Don’t ask why there are so many pics of the buses :smack:

Nice pics Nadia. I've visited my elementary school and it looks tiny compared to when I was a child there. hehe. Great memories.

You're kidding Nadia, My mom used to teach at that school. She taught there for over 20 years.

:-)

Thanks, everyone. :flower1: i enjoyed reading everyone’s replies.

AAhmed, Please you have to tell me whether your mother knew any of the same teachers i did. Please ask her, if possible.

Mrs. Sabiha
Mrs. Rukhsana
Mrs. Kulsoom
Mrs. Hameeda
Mrs. Najma (she was the vice principal, then principal)
Mrs. Salma
Mrs. Tajwar
Mrs. Maha (Arab teacher)
Mrs. Parveen
Mrs. Aejaz

There are so many more, i can’t remember more names right now. Please ask your mother whether she knew any of the above. If you can only ask about one, then ask about Mrs. Hameeda - she was very elderly back then. i heard she moved to Toronto but NO way of confirming that. Please please please ask about her in particular, if not the others as well ( :flower1: ). Mrs. Hameeda was one of my favourites… one of the sweetest ladies in the world. She would share her lunch with any students if they didn’t have any; once i remember one of the students accidentally got a tear in her new book… she started crying cuz she was scared what her parents would say. Mrs. Hameeda bought her a new book. Little things like that :o PLEASE ask your mom whether she knew any of the above teachers… If you feel comfortable, please pm me your mom’s name too… if i don’t already sound like a stalker :o
