Despite the decrease in overall dimensions, the Transformer Prime features larger speakers than its predecessor (6% larger according to ASUS).
The Prime comes with an integrated 25Wh battery, similar to its predecessor. Also like the original Transformer, you can purchase an optional keyboard dock for the Prime for $149 that will nearly double its battery capacity (+22Wh). The new dock is obviously slimmer than the old one and gives you a full keyboard, track pad, USB 2.0 port and SD card reader.
^ sounds like an improvement over the Transformer… which… BTW is an excellent tablet. Speakers are one of the main issue with it, and if ASUS has improved these, then the new tablet should be worth it.
I have to admit though and I’ve only used the keyboard dock a couple of times in the five months that I’ve had it for - not much use for me, and I’m thinking about trying to sell it online.
So you’re saying i should get it without the keyboard. I’m pretty adept with the the soft keyboard, but I want to eliminate taking the laptop with me. this would have to be the end all.
^ that’s what I’d recommend. With a folding tablet sleeve that allows me to type on the screen slanted, I’m pretty much all set. I can type reasonably fast in a meeting environment and haven’t needed a keyboard attachment at all.
How can a tablet replace a laptop when typing documents on it such a hassle? I have a toshiba thrive and the lack of multipurpose functionality is why I am selling it.
I don’t use it as a replacement for a laptop, but it complements it well. I don’t need to lug around the laptop if I don’t need to. My docs are synced and available through dropbox - so I can read them on the tablet (I don’t use it for writing). I also use it on the train/bus for multimedia & sometimes for video conferencing. In meetings, I find it cumbersome to use a laptop (seems more intrusive), so I use the tablet to jot notes.
i think I’m going to get the keyboard, if for nothing else then the battery. I’m planning to carry about that rather than bring my macbook now. Let’s see how it works out.
