Okay, so my parent’s got married in 1990 and I’m very thankful my mom kept her wedding jewelry. I’m all for heirloom/vintage stuff given to you by your mother/grandmother/family etc. Here are some of the pieces (NOTE: not all of them were worn on the actual wedding)
how do you guys suggest I incorporate my mother’s necklace[s] with a “paanch/saath lara haar”, since I REALLY want to get one made for my baraat. Like this:
Could I wear one of my mother’s necklaces and get a haar made? I really like the one Kiran Bokhari (bride in red) is wearing since it was subtle and could be worn with other necklaces. I also would love to get one kundan/polki necklace made, like one of these but smaller since I will wear 2-3 necklaces and dont wanna look OTT:
Picture something like that but maybe one strand instead of 3 since I will layer/stack. What is a girl to do? Decisionsx3!
LOL, uff TLK. -_- it just so happens she brought them home from the locker at the bank to show me and I snapped away. Ahem.
Thanks! Those are def. some of my favorites as well, love the smaller flower one.
Sigh, I’m almost 20 so tech. I’m not getting married for 3-4 years (obviously) but don’t let the age fool you, I’m one of those girls that has been planning her big day since she was 16. I have organized albums and everything on my mabcook, this forum definitely fueled my obsession. And thank you! Anyone want to answer my questions above? Please and thank you.
my Goodness!!! i would design my entire jora, scratch that, the whole wedding theme, around this gorgeous set http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/60871/IMG_0356.JPG
the teeka and jhoomar in the first two pics would go so well with this set, and plus a saat lara in pearls and maybe just small rubies? faint
You lucky girl! your mom has quite the collection!
Okay, I love that idea! I think that is perfect! Totally encouraging as heck, my mom probably loves you already, SGC! Could you please describe the ruby bit regarding the saat lara? Anything I could look at to get an idea of what you mean? Do you think I could fit in a kundan/polki-inspired type necklace? Not anything OTT, just a strand of a polki necklace like the one I posted above? Do you think wearing the teeka/jhoomar + the set + a saat lara would look too…pearly/moti-ish? That’s why I want to insert a polki/kundan strand, not a choker but a pedant-style, like the two I posted above. What do you suggest?
And I absolutely LOVE your take on jewelry and weddings, I remember your weddings pictures and the green necklace you planned everything around, totally gorgeous!
ok so by delicate, i mean something like this… http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/80452/PAKISTANI_BRIDES-658.JPG
i think i’d opt for a 5 lara at least with smaller beads and rubies because the set you’ve posted above is quite substantial and you want them complementing each other, not fighting for attention. i’d also keep your kameez with little to no kaam on the gala and front, except for maybe a thin border and some booties. otherwise, it can really get too much. this kameez is perfect with the amount and kind of jewellery she has on IMHO- http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/suraiya/shah5.jpg
this is one thing i find with a lot of Bunto brides- their kameezes are so full of kaam, you can barely see any of the jewellery long enough to be draped on the shirt.
if you opt for a kundan one like in the pic you’ve posted of the bride in peach- which is gorgeous- then i think it would be more of a rani haar, i.e. a single or double strand with a larger pendant. you’d really have to try it on in conjunction with your mom’s set to see how it works. i’m having a hard time visualising them together because i’ve only ever seen the kundan or polki pieces on their own as the one, main piece of jewellery. i’m not sure how it would look paired with pearls.
So the rubies would be in the 5 lara’s pendant or the rubies would be right next to the beads? And I totally agree with you on the kaam bit, I’m all for everything complimenting everything and I’ve seen some Bunto brides go too much with the kaam around the neckline PLUS statement-y necklaces (I plan on being a Bunto bride too, ahem)
Totally getting you, it’s the same way Kiran Bokhari did with her paanch/saat lara haar, it started below her 2nd necklace, I didn’t realize what made everything fit so well but now that you point it out, it has everything to do with where it starts:
Great eye! And yup, I too was having a hard time picturing how the kundan necklace would go w/ my mom’s set and the raani haar. What if I was to wear a kundan necklace, something subtle as the first necklace, mom’s as 2nd and a 3/5 lara haar starting from below my mom’s necklace (the 2nd necklace) as the 3rd? The earrings would be the matching ones from my mom’s set.
Does that sound weird? I would keep the neckline kaam-wise totally simple.
How would you guys pair
1)
2) a subtle kundan/polki necklace like this except it would not be as big & have only 1-2 strands as opposed to three:
3) a small-bead 5 lara haar with red rubies
…or you wouldn’t pair it at all? There has to be a way to make it work, no?
