I used to think Islam was a ‘primitive’ religion, with its followers at war with all other religions. The women supressed, without any rights.
My family was from Peshawer and the horror stories heard of the Partition - I thought all Pakistanis were ‘sadistic’ people, who were out there to rape women & destroy the Hindu’s.
In old Delhi, most of the Muslims I saw there, were poor, dirty, the women ugly and badly dressed or in ‘tented’ Burkha’s, sub-consiously that was my impression of all Pakistani’s.
Thanks to GS, I have now realised that I was wrong and that there are some fine people in Pakistan with moderate views & ideas. Also that Pakistani women are not all dumb and tented in Burqha’s…
u would be surprised to know the type of crap about india, and hindus that is fed to ppl in Pakistan. back in the day with limited media choices, no internet..the people had no way of finding out the truth for themselves.
From what I hear from my indian friends, it was the same in India. stories about partition, wars, etc etc
You know what people will come and say this is BS, and all I have to say is that they need to read a book titled 'khoon ki holi' by ishtiaaq ahmed, an autor who used to write for children.. kinda like a desi copy of famous five or hardy boys..the entire premise of the story was that there were hindus who were kindpapping kids, and using some machine to poke their heart suction the blood out and play holi with it.
so..with such trash being fed to people by morons of the highest degree, no wonder views get formed, opinions shaped that are incorrect.
we still run into it, and its sad given teh advances in media and ability of people to get online and just interact and read. Like we get some zit faced nerd who logs on every so often writes trash about using pakistanis as toilet paper and leaves.
Thats why one of my pet peeves is the pissing contests ppl get into sometimes, because if us educated, priviliged ppl who have the opportunity to interact cant be civil and learn to agree to disagree, then what hope do we have for the masses of the nations.
thanks for your post though, good to see ppl just getting to know each other better
getting so emosanal..hai rabba…yaa alllaaah… …wait..now the fight should begin as to who gets more royal treatment when an indian goes to pakistan or when it is visa versa?. so malhotra has changed !!!

Lollywood is filled with examples.. Some of them are so hilarious and ridculous its amazing...
After coming on gupshup, I think both the Pakistanis and the Indians on here have changed their impression of each other for the better(I hope:hypo:). I used to think that most all Pakistanis had extreme views on most issues but now thanks to gupshup, my views have definitely changed in a positive way.
In the beginning, there was some major india hatin’ going on though but now it’s changed(i hope).
Zobia - No personally, I have not. But it show's how things got twisted in our minds, especially after partition.
Partition horror story I heard as a kid - Hindu Ambala Station Master's head was slit and salt rubbed in it and that he died several hours later in sheer torture - such were the sadistic stories we were fed with. No wonder, it is taking so long to reconcile.
i think contact between the indians and pakistanis changes perception alot, here on GS we are in touch with each other through the net, so we get to read ppl opinions on diff things, and that can sumtimes clear misconceptions about issues
But actually meetin each other also really helps to clear up misconceptions 2
I live in the Uk so mix with every1 including indians infact alot of my closest friends r indians theyre cool ppl :)
Their r good and bad ppl everywhr
Nice thread. I totally agree with all you guys.
Why dont we make a deal, we'll let you win in the 20/20 final if you promise to return back POK. :D
Jokes apart, I do not know how many years it will take, but Kashmir cannot stop India and Pakistan to join hands eventually. We are the same people, and I strongly believe in the importance of region over religion. And the people of the sub continent are not like the people of mid east. Many of you might not like it, but I do think that Pakistan will become a secular nation eventually; that might invalidate the reason for the creation of Pakistan, but that's the way to go.
Let my post not destroy the camaraderie being shown here, if it does I'll remove it.
^That one issue that keeps being brought up that causes major fights now and has caused in the past is of course the biggie: Kashmir.
I don't think the two countries can ever solve it and so the wound will always stay open which means there will still be bigtime arguments over it on gupshup.

What I think is that with time both the countries will realize how the Kashmir issue has sabotaged the relations between them. If it cannot be resolved, let it be. Kashmir issue is an important issue but it has been made *the *issue by both the countries.
