Like others have said, this happens everywhere. I have no idea what it's like in Pakistan but I see so many people putting Pakistan on a pedastal and going into shock (not picking on you Munni) when they hear something bad about Pakistan simply cause it's a "Muslim" country. I think it would be safe to assume stuff like this (and perhaps worse things) happen in pretty much all "Muslim" countries and everywhere else in the world. I've heard about weirder stuff going on in Arab countries, but that's another topic altogether. I know you are wanting to talk particularly about Pakistan though.
We always hear these weird stories about the 'rich' and 'elite' in Pakistan. If they were doing this stuff, it wouldn't surprise me.
Mehnaz, thats the thing. He said people think its just with the rich, and it isnt. He also said that because the middle class people dont think its happening, it is becoming more widespread. Anyway, I am just stating what he was stating.
I just asked Ammi if she ever heard of such things, because she grew up all over Pakistan. She said some of this was happening in villages long ago, when she was a teenager there. faint
i guess it depends on the type of crowd your friend has been exposed to
the stuff abt the doctors and the prescriptions is true...yes we do have a serious lack of proper medical facilities in the country...but not all docs prescribe wrong drugs or are unqualified...ppl are getting successful medical treatment for many different diseases in the country every single day after all...
the other stuff you mentioned...well...ive heard so much....ive never seen it happen personally though....maybe its really rare...no society is completely free of all evils...and the same is true for ours....
ive got exposure i think to a lot of different levels of Pakistani society and i would say that overall Pakistani society is STILL despite EVERYTHING on the surface a very much conservative society
i have lived about 20 yrs of my life in pak and never came across something like this...it certainly is new for me but it doesn't really surprise me..but wife swapping??!!! i don't think if that happens even in the west...i guess we are trend setters in something..and whats this tape thing about
wasay ppl who have not visited pak in ages think of it as some kind of a heavenly place which is devoid of all ills of a normal society. :-P from my experience i have learnt there are good and bad things about EVERY society.
Munni: I don't know about wife swapping part! Thats a bit to much, and that mothers pimping their daugthers part also! :-|
ok, i know 2 different friends who do more corrupted things back home in pakistan then living in canada, everytime they come back they tell me stories. One girl, who i know from toronto, who goes back home to punjab where her parents are from, and smokes up 10 times more weed then she does it here. Has sexual relations with guy cousins etc.. She drinks 10 more liquor when shes in pakistan then she does here. Same thing goes with one of my guy. When he's in toronto he'd only smoke weed, but when he'd be in pakistan he be doing hash, coke, etc etc....
I try to help these people but they just dont listen. I think, Its not our pakistan that is corrupted but it's just few minor people who are, people who are blinded. They are muslims just for the "name". May allah help them follow the path of righteous and open their eyes before it's too late for them!
Your friend certainly knew who to meet and be around to have a good time in Pakistan.
sorry but i just can't take these condescending testimonials from ABCD's visiting Pakistan as they were going to Thailand or some other exotic place.. why don't i get to see/know this? why does everyone I know has to get on a plane to some other country to have this kinda 'wild fun'? perhaps i know no one at the fringe of society..
Bottom line, You can get into trouble if you go looking for it.
As for his claims about the state of medical malpractice.. it's credible.. but again 300 people with incorrect prescriptions? it's very hard to believe.. i've had treatment from galee mohallay kay doctors.. who just did their MBBS from small Medical colleges and started their own practice.. I've seen droves of people get in and get out sehatyaab from there.. and I've personally worked with Pharmaceutical companies (IT Support) and seen the quality controls and standards.. it's not that bad.
I think u have quite a chooRoo friend at your hands.. not to mention the kinda discussions you have with him :)

Its called Key Parties.
You go to the party, drop your car key's in a bowl, on the way out your wife picks up a random car key and goes home with the owner of that car. You go home with the woman who picks up your car key.
Ive known of that practice for around..hmm...7-8 years now more or less.
Interesting comments. Indeed I told him throughout the conversation that I found it all very hard to believe that many people were doing that, but he sticks to his story.
I wanted to clarify that my friend wasnt saying that this is happening on a large scale. He said it is happening on a larger scale than people think, and with types of people that you wouldnt think would do these things. Perhaps that wasnt coming across earlier.
PA, yeah, I thought it was strange that he saw 300 ppl and all had wrong prescriptions but again, thats what he said. Only he would really know the truth to it all. I hadnt spoken to him in months since he was busy with exams and then his trip, so we dont talk that often. Indeed, I do get into weird conversations sometimes with ppl, but thats the part of me that just listens to what people have to say. sigh
It never ceases to amaze me that these things go on, small scale or large. I guess I dont become desensitized to it even after hearing it a few times.

all aside, i wish i had a frnd like munni with whom I can have these raunchy conversations :(

Ahhhh. It wasnt raunchyyyyy. He was just stating what he saw and heard. He wanted to tell me so that I know what goes on in Pakistan. Apparently he thinks I am very naive. I rarely speak to himmmmm. afsoos Is it bad to listen to such things from someone?
these kinds of evils occur all overthe world.. wife swapping is far more common in west.. but in general one never finds these evils while living in Pakistan until one wants to explore.. as they say if u have awill u will get it.. ur friends mind was set on finding or hearing about these things.. and he never noticed the vast majrity og great things happening there and only looked for few rare things.. did he noticed that people still get off their bi-cycles, bikes to join a janaza of someone they never knew when they see it and join namaze--e-janaza..

Yeah I've also heard of that, was about to mention it. Wife swapping is something I've been hearing about since I was a little girl. It was shocking to my naive ears back then.
Thought I'd mention, that this was in a small town in Zambia. I have no idea about Pakistan though. :)
Some of my friends in Pakistan have told me outright that they know some of this stuff goes on; and they've repeatedly heard rumours of a lot of the other stuff too.
I've also heard wierd stories, but then they were only stories, I have not seen it with my own eyes, people in pakistan love to exaggerate a lot. If you are looking for such things, then you'll find it but if you want to stay away from such aspects then you will find enough good people who are not involved in such activities.
Munni, I don't think your friend is exaggerating about that sex stuff, but he has been hanging out with the wrong crowd. That's for sure.
I have been to Pakistan five times in the last five years spending a total of more than 9 months there (6 of those when I went to teach there in 2001) and NEVER came across anything near that kind of stuff. The worst I have seen were two of my students, who were "dating", but not really seriously. However I am sure it is happening, but I just can't believe it is that widespread.
And regarding the state of medical treatment in Pakistan. This is all about the money. If you can afford to get treated in good (and of course expensive) clinics, you do it. But the problem is, that the vast majority of Pakistan's population can't afford that.
