My friend's account of his Shocking trip to Pakistan

Maybe what I am about to say is common knowledge in Pakistan, but my friend who experienced it was totally shocked, and I was completely speechless throughout much of the conversation.

A few days ago my friend, a doctor, came back from his trip to Pakistan. He is Kashmiri but he lived in Pakistan a few years when he was younger, and moved to states early on.

So this year he took a trip to areas from Rawalpindi to Peshawar. He also visited places like Attock and military areas close to there.

I asked him about his trip and one of the first things he said was that the trip left him in utter disbelief, and that he felt like he was in a coma/numb for a few days due to what he saw and heard in Pakistan. Keep in mind that my friend is in his thirties.

Anyway, so I asked why that was and this is some of what he told me.

First he started off by asking me if I heard about the tape made at a net café in Pakistan. I told him I had. He said that some of the girls in the tape were from high-profile families and that atleast 4 of them committed suicide due to the shame.

Then he told me about how he would visit net café’s and even peoples homes, and he said that a majority of the people he saw, were using it for porn. I told him that I don’t believe that, and he said it was absolutely true.

So then he mentioned that a friend of his took him to this house that had many young girls in it. The girls were around 14/15 years old, and were supposed to be in school. Instead, they would be picked up from school when their parents dropped them, and taken to this house. From there, men would come and you know the rest. Then they would be dropped off just before school finished. This isn’t it. He said the person in charge of the schools participated in these acts by receiving revenue and he said this wasn’t only happening in one school. He also said that these girls were not just the poor girls.

Then he said that some mothers would take their daughters to some location and sort of rent a room, and pimp their daughters. By this time my jaw was on the floor and all I could say was that what he was saying simply wasn’t true. He kept insisting that it was and that he saw this with his own eyes, which resulted in him numbing out.

He also said that the things going on at or near the military bases were very disturbing. Especially with girls from families that came from abroad.

So then he tells me that there is a new trend going on in Pakistan. I asked him what this trend was, and I was simply horrified at the response. Wife-swapping. By this time I called him a liar, and he said no, it has been going on for a while now, and it’s the new-age thing to do. I said that maybe very few people were participating in this. Then he named a major city in Pakistan and said it was happening there, which is where he saw ads about it. He said people are trying to outdo themselves in ways to have fun and be different/dangerous. By this time I was getting delirious so he changed the topic.

Then he started telling me about the state of the medical workers and doctors in the cities he visited. He particularly mentioned one large city (I don’t want to name names). Because he is a doctor, and people knew he was coming to town, people had lined up to see him. From friends, to relatives, to distant relatives, etc. He said out of 300 people he saw, not a single one had the correct prescription for what was ailing them. Not a single one!!! Then he said that many of the drugs given, were not even proper drugs. If there were three categories of drugs, these drugs would be in category 4, the non-existent category. This made him very angry and he visited the local hospital that a relative of his was staying in. He spoke to one of the chief people there and asked about his relative. The person told him the hospital couldn’t conduct the proper tests due to financial issues and other things. Anyway, thankfully, his relative was fine after my friend intervened and had whatever tests done.

Then he told me that a new thing going on there is that people who work in medical offices are taking off and opening their own practices. Giving out drugs they have no idea about, and essentially, killing people due to it. He said the doctors and hospitals are killing people due to their lack of knowledge, lack of equipment, lack of regulations, etc.

I don’t know how exaggerated these claims were, but he said he wasn’t lying about anything, and that he was still in a state of shock even after having coming back from Pakistan.

I just wanted to know if this is really going on there? I mean you hear about poor countries and things but hearing it from someone who just came back from one was just shocking. I am in disbelief, and perhaps I am naïve, but I just cant believe this is what has happened there. What has happened with the morality of youth these days?

He said it was ironic that people are sending their kids to Pakistan to be safer, and yet that is going on there.

Any comments?

I will only reply if you promise not to get this thread disappear too! :grumpy:

The other one was a personal account and I could have gotten in big trouble for it, so I had to have it disappear, but this one will not disappear. Please reply.

lussi,

He saw the ads for the wife-swapping. Didnt experience it in person, but asked his friends about the ads he saw, and they told him about it.

He is not known to exaggerate in the long time I have known him. If he was known to do that, I wouldnt have posted the account.

Just the other day my dad was talking to some person who sold his house here so that his kids could be brought up in Pak, whilst he is working here as a taxi driver.

He says he made a big mistake and their just getting messed over there, whilst hes here working his a** off and renting a small single room.

Although stuff goes on, from what Ive heard from some people youd believe the whole of Pakistan is Gay, but to me its always exaggerated. If you go visit, and not just these cities, you will find alot of good, decent people.

But yeah its getting worse, no doubt about that.

Its all about the sort of company one keeps. Good and bad is everywhere. I am sure if this doctor fellow wanted to hang out with achay musalman people in Pakistan, he would have found plenty of those too. We can't take a small fraction of our out-of-control upper-society and extra-polate it to the entire nation.

The problem about medicines is quite real, actually. It may not be in 100% of the case, but I do know for a fact, that imported medicines (brought directly by the patient or his/her relatives) work better compared to medicines available in pharmacies.

He said it wouldnt have been as disturbing if it was only the upper society doing this. He said he saw this in small villages. I didnt list everything he said, but much of it wasnt in big towns only, and not just the rich.

He did say that there are obviously good people there and good families, but he did not expect the level of this that he saw, and especially the villages participating in this.

I told him that I couldnt believe everything he was saying, but he was adamant that its going on there and that he wasnt making any of it up. Plus, I could tell that he was very disturbed about it all.

I sincerely hope it wasnt as widespread as he was saying.

I would like PKC's comments on this, since he recently went back to Pakistan.

very true.. a lot of my friends go and come back with wierd stories just like the ones you’ve heard.. these are people who go not so much and only visit “the high society” people… whereas ive been back several times.. and have never experienced such things… not saying these things dont happen.. but i think the numbers are quite few

not entirely true :k: my mamoos are in the pharmaceutical business and they supply medicines all over Gurjanwala and Sialkot.. ive been back and ive found their medicine works a lot better than the ones i get from here.. infact my cousins brought some here, and we were using theirs instead of the normal panadol.. it depends on where you get it

Its all anecdotal. Varies with someone’s experience. It is actually surprising because I have seen the manufacturing facilities of some of the big-name pharma companies in Pakistan (e.g. Glaxo-Welcome, Wyeth etc) and their standards seem impeccable. I do have doubts about medicines imported into Pakistan, especially when our mainstream newspapers frequently have stories thatour Deptt of Health is not monitoring the imports properly and low grade medicines make it to Pakistan. Your mamoos, probaby get you Grade A medicines, so there you go!

Munni… wife-swapping in villages!!! Alright! That should be fun. I mean, how many people would know about it. After all its just a huge village!

Tell me something new Munni

As lussi said, I think he’s exaggerating this a little bit, especially the “ads about wife swapping”. I mean COME ON! Molvies in Pakistan don’t allow PTV to play pakistani movies on PTV Prime so do you really think they’ll let these ads to run?

  • Medical officers taking off from gov’t regulated hospital and running their own.
  • People opening clinics who were once compounders at a hospital and never went to the medical school
  • 2 prescription drugs
  • Girls having sex (being picked up from school)
  • Young girls (mothers of small children) having sex with youngsters while husband out of town
  • Mothers pimping their daughts (I am sure they are not real mothers, maybe women who sell girls)
  • Sex pretty common (yet not so openly done)

All these are common. Except the having sex with girls part, I’ve pretty much come across everything else first hand.

The wife-swapping was in the large town, not the village. I just dont want to name places. Either way, its awful.

I dont mean ads in papers or on t.v. I mean discreet ads and parties in certain places. Patha nahin keise samjhai.

I am not saying I believe its as rampant as he was saying. I am simply giving his personal account. I havent been to Pakistan in years, so wouldnt know, but he was convinced this is not just a "few people" thing.

From what Ive seen, its in the villages where everyone seems to know everything about everyone else.

Anyway Munni just clarified this was happening in the city.

No. It's difficult to swap wives because people are religious and very ghairat-mand. However, it's easy to have sex in crops and fields.

true.. i guess it just depends where its being manufactured.. my cousin (the mamoos daughter is a pharmacist) and during her studies they had to visit quite a few of these manufacturing companies and she said she was very impressed with the way thinsg happened in there.. but then again shes from there.. so her standards may be different…

my mamoos do deal with international companies.. but i think they mainly distribute medicine which is made within pakistan.. there are heaps of really good companies out there now :k:

Yeah, that was kinda my point too.

Anyway, I don't disagree that these things happen. These have all happened for a long time, perhaps since day one. I am just not convinced that these are wide-spread to the point of being called "common" place.

I dont want to mention what he said some bearded seemingly religious men were upto. Infact I wasnt even going to post this since it was Ramadan, but I felt if I waited till after, I would have forgotten much of it.

The point of the post was to tell people what one person experienced in Pakistan, and to see what others think about it.

I dont think its true at all.
I will agree about the porn in internet cafe, but not with all the other stuff. I am not saying that it is not happening. may be it is. But not the way your friend is portraying it. There are bad things in every society, but i cant even imagine such stuff in Pakistan going on at such an open level. If a person that goes from US to pakistan can find such things, then trust me everyone in Pakistan will know about it.
I hope your friend does not have his own agenda to show Pakistan as the nasties place on the planet.
Please dont believe that everyone says.

well i am sure its true, but then again, doesnt it happen in every major cities of the world?
watch O.C girl!

i've been to pakistan sooo manytimes,, never experienced such things nor will InshAllah. it really depends on what kind of people one hang around with :-)
