My favorite part about Ramadan is...

…in the very beginning when Muslims all over the world peer out their windows in search for the New Moon. Then, all the communities fight over what day Rozai really begin, and sometimes just one dude out of the masses will have claimed to see the moon, and then he gets proved wrong and covers up by saying that it might have been an airplane that he saw. And then the Saudis decide to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing, those rebels, and announce that Ramadan starts a day before/after what everyone else claims.

…and remember, don’t lick envelopes because then it’ll break your Roza.

 Ramadan Mubarik.

Re: My favorite part about Ramadan is...

Oh, and you missed the following fatwas, etc:

Don't take a shower after 12 pm.

Don't brush your teeth or use mouthwash...so what if your coworkers and colleagues think your breath smells like donkey crap, and you end up losing your job?

If you break your roza with a cookie, you're doomed to the lowest pit in hell.

Re: My favorite part about Ramadan is...

Fast is broken by intaking stuff, and not by tasting food while cooking (by placing a bit on your tongue only) or by brushing teeth or mouthwash.

Shower after 12pm? wth!

Please refrain from posting false fatwas.

Re: My favorite part about Ramadan is...

Oh how precious. So you're allowed to put some food in your mouth temporarily, get a taste, and then remove the food, and your fast is still kept?

The shower after 12 pm is something I hear all the time. Depends on who is your mullah.

Re: My favorite part about Ramadan is…

You’re preparing food for god knows how many rozedaars. Checking for namak mirch by placing a bit on your tongue will not break your fast.

You need to look in the right places for fatawa.

Re: My favorite part about Ramadan is…

Really?? i always heard hte opposite growing up.. plus ur not suposed to brush ur teeth with toothpaste, and i know girls who won’t use chapstick or something  I brush my teeth when i fast, i dont consider it breaking it..as for the shower, never herd that..

Common Mistakes During Ramadhan

Re: My favorite part about Ramadan is...

Mr Sharaabi even if it is allowed to taste the food i personally believe it should be discouraged. Have simple dishes for iftar that do not require any tasting. We tend to go all out with this iftar thing. Ideally there should be some sharbat, dates and one solid dish or two max. I dont believe it breaks the fast though, as it is also allowed to do kulli during wudu while one is fasting.

Ms Sara516, it doesnt matter what you consider right and what you consider wrong. If it has been deemed law by the religious authority that you follow, then it is meant to be upheld. Different schools of thought have different fatwas on this issue. It would be right for you to look up that information rather than just going by what you think is right.

As for not brushing/using mouthwash.. both require throat gargles and, like it or not, one eventually ends up ingesting some (unless youre a super expert or you dont mind restricting the cleaning to the mouth only). I believe people do wake up for sahoor (i hope). Maybe they can make the extra effort to finish sahoor 5 minutes early and go and quickly brush their teeth/mouthwash etc. Ofcourse if you're fasting you wont be eating anything from 5-6 am till long after you go to work and that means theres less chances of having bad breath.

And you still keep your job.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Sharaabi…

That list should be posted as a sticky in religion…Very informative…:k:

Re: My favorite part about Ramadan is…

My understanding regarding use of toothpaste and mouthwash is that such things are considered Makrooh and all scholars recommend MISWAAK to be used instead.

Narrated by Abu Huraira:razi: :

Allah’s Messenger:saw: said, “Allah said, ‘All the deeds of Adam’s sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.Fasting is a shield or protection from the fire and from committing sins. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarreling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, ‘I am fasting.’ By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the unpleasant smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting.

[Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 128]
