Here is my situation… I am currently in canada to have my baby (no I am not here illegally or on a visit visa) … thing is that I am staying with friends and as such have limited space, limited finances and limited other resources.
I need you guys’ help to come up with a list of things that the baby must have because once the baby is born inshAllah …and once we have the legal formalities sorted out we will be going back home ASAP…
My limited resources include access to a washer and dryer, and space I have already mentioned…
Right now I have purchased a travel system (that I will be using here and will be taking with me back home)
I looked at bathtubs and found one at BabiesRus that can be folded and stored (helps a lot here and I should be able to take it back home with me inshAllah)
I am confused as to how many bibs, sleepers, body suits, blankets, receiving blankets, mittens, socks, caps I should be buying…and in what sizes… how many changes per day can I expect…how long can I keep messy baby clothes before I MUST do the laundry…
What size pampers should I buy, when and how many
Bottles should I buy now or wait till after the baby .. I think khawateen mentioned that baby chooses its bottle.
What abt things like nail clippers, squirt thingie for the nose, thermometer and so on…
I plan on having the baby sleep in bed with us (it is a queen size bed) so I might need something for that … what would I need for that… there is no space for a bassinet plus I won’t be able to take the bassinet with me
Please mention anything else you feel will be needed as these are the things I can come up with… thanks in advance you all..
two adults and a baby on queen size bed?.. not a good idea
buy a blowup mattress ... not for baby .. for your hubby and have him sleep in a kitchen or corridor watever...and u can take it back with u

yeah might have hubby sleep on the floor.... or on the couch in the living room... jsut hope my friend doesn't feel like we are spread all over the house...
Can you get a moses basket to put the baby in, and keep it on top of your bed for baby to sleep in (bcos you should never keep the baby under a duvet etc).
Nappies - get newborn size. I don't know now much you will need, but heard that don't be surprised to change baby up to 7 -8 times a day.
Bottles - will you not be breastfeeding? If you will need a bottle, you will need a sterilizer also, I recommend an electric one, rather than microwave. Otherwise you will have to sterilize tradionally.
Baby vests and sleeping suits - lots - especially if you can't do laundry very often. A friend told me she used to wash a bundle of baby clothes EVERY DAY, but I don't know how necessary this is. I would get at least 8 or each, preferably 12 of each in newborn / 1 month sizes.
Have u got cotton wool balls etc for baby changing? And baby changing mat? U will need a mat and a flat surface to change baby on.
Re other small things, I don't think you should get mroe than you need for the number of days you will be with your friend, bcos it will take up a lot of space all together.
I'm sure experienced parents will give further information (bcos mine could be all wrong!)
If the baby MUST sleep with you in the bed, babies r us sells a sleep positioner...so get that to keep ur baby in, and maybe use 2 blankets, 1 for u, 1 for hubby so baby doesnt have to be under big comforter...
hmm, do you plan to breastfeed? Regardless I would buy just 1 bottle, to see if baby likes it or not, perhaps Avent or Dr. Brown's is pretty good.
I would reccommend you only buy 1 pack of onesies in size 0-3 months, the newborn size has a chance of being too small. Also get some one piece outfits with buttons on the bottom to easily change baby. you will newborn size hats, 1 pair should be fine to begin with. Bulk size boxes of diapers are cheaper BUT since you have limited space, just get a normal pack of diapers in size "Newborn", Pampers Swaddlers are pretty good.
Also get 1 thin blanket & 1 thick blanker for baby. hmm...
hey automne... congrts again... if i remember correctly u still have 2 mnths before delivery rite? m in week 34 and i remember u were few weeks behind me. anyway... i can share my personal experience.. go absolutely crazy on clothes.. they can never b enuff!!! but def make sure u dun buy expensive clothes. i have brought more than 30 clothes for her.. all kinds but mostly onesies where they have buttons behind.. they are easy to open and change diapers. i got 10 bibs, 5 socks, 4 receiving blankets, 1 blanket, sleep positioner, changing mat, 2 pillows....i have yet to buy pampers, baby lotions, oils etc.. i will b doin that soon though. wish u all the best!!! :)
Do you not have access to a washer dryer? If not, then definitely get plenty of onesies and such. You go through those a lot (easily 2 in a day). And bibs and washcloths. Don't get the fancy design ones -- you want proper terry cloth ones that will clean and soak up fluid.
also get those full body suits -- those are great.
I had my daughter early so wasn't quite prepared. Hubby picked up some newborn baby Gerber bottles and we used those for quite a while. But we now use the Born Free ones more frequently. Born Free, Avent, and Dr. Browns all seem to be good. However, if you're planning to nurse, you really don't need them. Just maybe get 1-2 in case you need to give formula. Are you planning on pumping -- if so, don't forget the pump!
No need for a sterilizer. But do keep a pot/dish aside to sterilize the bottles you do use.
how about borrowing some stuff that you can return once you are done with it.....no added expense and nothing to dispense with when you are ready to return.
pm me to let me know where you are and if you are nearby I will loan what I can from the baby stuff that I have stored away.......
I would not reccommend getting 30 outfits, especially as you have limited space and babies outgrow outfits very quickly. Maybe 1 five pack of 1/2 sleeve onesies, 1 five pack of full sleeve onesies, couple of body suits, a few layered outfits so you can interchange...etc....get a pack of burp clothes/bibs, so that way the baby's clothes dont get ruined as much. I went thru barely 2 outfits on a regular day.....
and for the most part I just changed my daughter into new outfits cuz I wanted to take pictures.
ooposss i just realised wot onesie is.. i didnt buy lots of those, i bought alot of body suits cus ure supposed to keep ur baby warm and onesie is open from legs.. not v gud for new borns i guess?? so instead of onesie i meant i bought alot of bodysuits.. they are easy to take off and put on

baby clothes are not alot in weight so she can easily put them in anywhere and they wudnt occupy alot of space

That is true, but I am thinking maybe since she is specifically asking for what she really needs, 30 seems like a bit much for a newborn. I am not sure if the poster specified exactly how long after birth she would be leaving. I still think regardless of space, you don't need that many. Plus in first few weeks/months of baby's life they get swaddled up...unless it is extremey hot where the baby is gonna be born.
awww u guys are soo awesome for being there... thing is we don't know how long we are gonna be here.... as soon as we have the passport and visas for travelling to go back to the Middle east we will be leaving inshAllah...and you really can't give a specific on when u are gonna get them....
Sorry for asking a DUMB question: But what is the difference between a onesie and a bodysuit... I thought they were the one and same...
@mall: yes I am a few weeks behind you... there are baby stufff on sale so thought I would make a list (of things and their quantities) and get them. I don't have access to a car or have family around so I need to get this stuff started now....
@others: I do plan on breastfeeding and I think breastfeeding cream and shields are going to be important too, but I have heard of mothers not having milk straight away so for that time they have to rely on feeding their kids with a bottle....
My friends are telling me that I should get glass bottles over plastic ones...what do you guys say?

haha trust me ure not alone... even i confused body suit for onesie. check the images on google.. body suit is as the same says full body suit.. ur baby will b protected and covered from top to his heels.. its really awsum for newborns...onesie is exactly same except its only till the kids's pvt area(where u put pamper). ive been told my cousin who has 2 kids that body suits are best for any weather. although i will b deliverin in may and its damnnnnn hot in uae startin from april itself... they say body suits and receving blankets are still necessary to keep the baby temperature warm.. i guess their bodies are naturally cold or somethin...
i went crazy with shoppin like i said. but i dunno if my advice for goin crazy will b gud for u. i dunno how long u r gonna b there and plus its personal preference. i wanted to buy alot of clothes cus i m told babies dirty their clothes so i din want to take risk so i bought as and when i liked anything.
even i plan to breastfeed but i still bought 3 bottles.. of the smalllest size (in oz) its for newly borns who dun drink alot of milk initially... there were different sizes and my friend told me to buy the smallest.. cus as they grow their milk intake will increase. i bought plastic ones... i hvent seen any mother carryin glass bottles... happy shopppppppinnnnggggg :) which week r u in now?
I have glass ones and quite like them I don't know how necessary they are, but with the recent discussions about toxic chemicals in plastic, especially as it is heated, I preferred glass. We did initially use plastic. I have the Born Free glass bottles. If you get plastic, make sure it's BPA free.

sahar theres a popular place here called baby shop in UAE but ive not seen them carryin glass bottles.. they have the plastic ones only. the one i bought was the smallest bottle and it was cheap too.. only 7 dhs.. now ur post made me think... when did u strt using glass bottles?
^ we used the basic gerber plastic ones for the first couple of months, cuz i was nursing and supplementing with formula. she came early and i didn't gave everything in order. but now i do, i decided to transition her. they are meant for newborns+
