ma mooli, i doubt personal law is what the aussies are referring to. most likely, it would be matters of criminal law.
in the end, its a choice between separation of state from religion vs. having laws for every religious background. the latter can get very very messy. india is probably the only country to carry it off half decently.
aussies seem to want clear separation of state from religion. their constitution proclaims the nation to be so . hence, if you would like to live under religious laws as per your belief, it would definitely not be your country. i dont see the racism there, it would in all likelihood be applicable if christians wanted to stone prostitutes or hindus wanted to burn widows.
Maybe “some” Aussies don’t want that, those “some” happen to be Muslims so what? Consitution is a man-made law, so if some men of the land want changes in it whats your problem?
