Shariah is term which most like means the rules by which muslims are to live by...its divided into govement issues and others by individual and family issues.
Once a muslim or any other religeous group is living in non-muslim or non-religeous state respectively and are citizens of that state then I believe muslim or that religeous group has to follow the rules of the state.
They however, should be allowed to voice their opinion in civilized and political way if they want to have some rules of govt. amended.
Moreover, states must provide enough relaxation to any religeon so that the followers are allowed to practice their religeon.
Off course citizens have responsibility to protect the honor and integrity of the state no matter what their religeon or beliefs maybe. Rules are made to keep harmony and need to be abided.
In my knowledge, Islam is no against any particular way the govenment runs...(I am referring to govt. part of shariah now). Palimentarian, presidential, kingdom, whatever...
On the same token, what france did to Jews/Muslims/sikhs and Christians in the name of secularism was a bit harsh in my opinion. No one has to agree with me if he/she does not want to on this particular matter.
