In response to someone’s post, I listed a few things that have become part and parcel of of many Muslim’s lives…It got me thinking and I have come to the belief that many of the things we do just don’t fit into the criteria that we as Muslims should have…
Allah :swt: states in the Quran:
**
To each is a goal to which God turns him; then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, God will bring you Together. For God Hath power over all things.**** (The Holy **Quran, 2:148)
These are the things I noticed growing up and still do:
-
If someone comes and declares that he has obtained from someplace a bottle of alcohol from someplace, he is hailed as someone better than the one who has memorized the Quran…
-
When a Zaani (Adulterer, fornicator) returns from his misdeed, he is hailed and greeted as a Ghazi (veteran) Mujahid returning from Jihad…
-
A friend who invites you to watch porn is better than a friend who invites you to pray Salat (worship)…
-
Piety, Taqwa and Eeman are the last things we look at when choosing spouses…
-
A wealthy man, no matter how he got his riches, is more respected and admired and envied than a pious man whose life is clean and chaste from misdeeds…(Although according to an authentic Hadith, the Holy Prophet :saw: advised us, that if we are to envy anyone, it should be those who have piety and Taqwa…)
-
Gheeba (backbiting) is a topic between any gathering of two Muslims and no heed is paid to it, despite its grievous and dangerous nature…
-
Money must be had, no matter how we get it or where we get it from, whether through interest (Allah :swt: has declared war on the people who deal in interest), gambling or selling Haram stuff…
-
Religious people (Whose advice was sought in every matter) are regarded as busybodies who cannot mind their own business…
-
Gatherings, where men and women mingle easily…(This is such a norm nowadays that it’s almost impossible to avoid, despite the Hadith that we are never to shun anyone’s invitation…)
Allah :swt: states in the Quran:
**Behold, ye are those invited to spend (of your substance) in the Way of God: But among you are some that are niggardly. But any who are niggardly are so at the expense of their own souls. But God is free of all wants, and it is ye that are needy. If ye turn back (from the Path), He will substitute in your stead another people; then they would not be like you!(The Holy Quran 47.38)
**Notice the underlined words…After all this, is it any wonder that from the ranks of the unbelievers, throughout Europe and America, thousands upon thousands MashaAllah of people are reverting while those of us, born and raised in Muslim households are drifting away?
They become Muslims, and wow do they become Muslims…
Feel free to add what you too believe you see the inflictions that has plagued this nation of ours, for mine as well as yourselves’ reminder, so that we may stay away from them or at least know in our hearts that they are to be avoided…
Some of the things, unfortunately, have become so ingrained in our culture and society, that we either ignore them, become part of them or are even completely unaware of their existence…
May Allah :swt: guide us, for truly, without His guidance, we, individually are destined for great tragedy in the hereafter, may Allah (swt) protect us from that, Ameen…
