Re: Muslims Praying On Beach Causes PANIC In Florida
I remember there was an event organized by someone on Facebook called “fajr on the beach”. Thought it was cool and nearly went but then I thought it might unnecessarily freak people out.
I don’t feel comfortable with the idea of prayer done so publicly. I don’t get the sense people are being authentic when they do this, they are trying to make a show of it to people that “look this is how we pray and we are in your public space so deal with it”, and that’s not what namaz means to me. It’s a personal experience and south Florida has many mosques now in reachable areas.
Reading namaz in public like in local parks is really common as in at events where people throw personal parties in the parks. And sometimes if it’s in clear view of passerby’s they notice, and some of them do visibly get uncomfortable.
But at the same time , homosexuality is now public to the point that shows at 8-10 pm slots are showing two women making out or two men making out or cuddling, so if I’m now subjugated to watch that when it doesn’t sit well with my morals then eff it, we can pray in public places and people can be offended all they want.
There are areas on the public beach here , not nude beaches, but public beach area on south beach where gays are engaging in sexual acts openly. And people are weirded out by namaz. It’s sad.
The sad thing is not that people are weirded out by namaz. The big sad thing is that muslims are weirded out by it. Their lame arguments make it even more sad.
