Back to the topic. Have a read of this article, which gives good background info on Muslim reservation.

In my earlier post, I said that I am not supporting reservations, but they do exist.
Among North Indian Muslims, certain communities like the Ansaris, Saffis, Siddiquis, Qureshis and Mansooris already have reservation. I cannot see why it is difficult to extend it to so called “high caste” Muslim groups such the Sayyid, Mughal, Pathan, Rajput, Tyagi, Kamboh and Kayasth as well. The Sachar commision said Muslims as a group are backword, then why give reservation to the first lot, and not to the rest.
If you read my postings in the Pakistan quata thread, I have said clearly that I see no problem with affirmative action.
