What did you edit, LP, sayitsayit!
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
The main reasons:
1. That's where I was born. It is my home. It is where I am comfortable.
2. It is where my friends and family are.
Other reasons:
3. To experience religious freedom (Muslims are often more intolerant of other Muslims than non-Muslims are).
4. I like diversity (tho that is available in many Muslim countries too)
5. A really strong Muslim support-network available in my non-Muslim country.
6. Muslim countries are not the same as Islamic countries.
7. Stability.
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
Many reasons.
Mine was economical.
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
Would you like the muslim countries to adapt the (unislamic) social norms of the countries that you live in? If not, aren't you a hypocrite?

Why would I(we) like that ? And living in a non muslim country does not mean that I (we) have adopted (unislaimc) social norms.
Doesn't Islam teach "Lakum deenakum Wa lee-ya deen" ?
Will you still call I(us) hypocrite ?
P.S: I know this post is not directed to just me. So no worries.
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
1. peace
2. opportunities
3. no leg pulling
4. cleanliness
5. fairness

openmindedness
tolerance
cleanliness
honesty
justice
literacy/education
creativity
peacefulness
I know I can get these Islamic qualities in my non-Muslim country. I am not sure about the Muslim country.
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
Everyone has missed the biggest reason: MONEY. :)
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
^ I can make more money in Dubai. Most of us could go to the ME if we were just out for $$$. Stability, the reassurance that your time, effort, and money will have lasting effect, is more significant.

that comes under 'opportunities' and i did mention that in my list :)

All the bold ones aren't unislamic so yes we would like to see these implemented in muslim countries too.
Openmindedness is something that has always confused me because apparently in order to be openminded I need to let my daughter run around in bikinis. Now that is unislamic and I'm speaking of these sort of things only. Not justice, equality, peace which are in fact requirements of Islam too.
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
^ Nope. That's not what being open-minded means.
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
Hallelujah! Some sanity remains in the world :D

Please refer to post # 7 for your answer. My daughter goes to swimming pool with me . I just watch her . I do not know swimming. In charge of swimming committee woman initially told us that they do not allow swimming with full clothes on. I told her we are Muslims and we are not allowed to wear biki as per our religious dress code . She said she will talk to the committee , I guess she talked to them and decided they have no problem with that because they never stopped her from swimming in the pool. How do I save my eyes from looking at those bikini clad women there on the pool . By keeping my gaze low and by reading a book or surfing the internet while I am there.
So see there is a way around every thing.

Such an amazing opportunity to derail this thread. But I come fresh from battle (the secularism thread) so I'll pass :D
Re: Muslims living in non-muslim countries
Was it a battle, IceSoul? Would you not agree it was a good discussion regardless of whether we've changed positions or not? As long as you're discussing the topic in a civil manner, I do not care what your opinion is so fire away.
goes back to read Mirch's post

Apparently you missed the " :D " in my post. It was just a light remark. :)
BTW, every discussion about things you feel really strongly about is like a battle :p

Indeed.
