I completely disagree. Forcing women to wear the burqa relegated them to non people.

And forcing them to take it off makes them great humanitarians? Nobody has the right to tell a woman what she can not or can wear.

If that is the case you would have no problem with the Government of Saudi Arabia forcing women to cover up and not wear certain indecent clothing?

They didn’t have the right to show themselves in public. France requires that one show ones face in public. They can cite a myriad of reasons, some of which being for public safety, and for communication.

In the West, covering ones face is equated with being sneaky, being two faced, being less than honest. People who rob establishments cover their faces, people who commit murders cover their faces, people who are open and an active part of society do not.

So basically the intolerance in french society for other cultures and their views means that they are allowed to violate the International Declaration for Human Rights and not to mention the very ethos of french society. Good. I really hope that applies to the Muslims world. Because it is felt a woman who dresses indecently is a harlot and thus can be sent to jail as a prostitute. After all it is not part of our culture to dress like a whore. So we can make it a criminal offense.

The only time people do cover their faces, are when it’s required for safety–against a harsh wind, or for medical reasons. Anything else is deemed suspicious. It is disturbing to the people of France, as well as people in much of the west, and that needs to be understood.

So basically Muslim women should change their beliefs, their views and their actions to conform with what some random stranger on the road thinks? Good. I hope they do the same in the rest of the world. Oh no that is gonna happen. If it gets to hot, they will drop most of the clothes regardless of the local customs.

I have seen this happen in Egypt, Sudan, Dubai, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Respect is earned, and those of us who travel internationally on a regular basis know very well how Europeans do not respect local customs. The Americans in that regard are much much better.

The law concerns everyone who covers their face. While part of it may be a reaction to the niqab, it encompasses more than just that.

The law is a violation of basic human rights and simply proves that you can have a masters but you can still be a racist. Next the Europeans will make it illegal to have a beard longer than so many inches. Just like the Taliban but only flip it.

I think people are assuming I’m staunchly anti niqab. I used to wear one. And yet,I still think if the government wants you to show your face, there is no harm, no violation of human rights, because those laws are in place to protect society as a whole. When the government starts trying to relegate how long your skirt can be, or what hairstyles you can wear, then we can start talking about violations.

Yeah like Nazi Germany had the interest of society as a whole when they started their discriminatory laws against the Jews. Welcome to the rolling snowball. Its just gonna pick up more speed.

Also I really think you are an idiot. Human rights do not cover the lenght of your skirt. They do not cover your eye make up. They cover the very basic fundemental human rights, inculding but not limited to the right to have your own independent choice and voice in what you personally wish to do. That is the freedom of religion, speech, equality. All of it.

The french should their motto and the phrase it doesn’t apply if you are Muslim.

try giving this human rights lecture to people in pakistan/india who have lost their loved ones to burka clad bombers…

faceless burka clad bombers? my solution is to hunt down and execute every indian in afghanistan and pak tribal region. they have no business there. then burn down all the indian consulates in afghanistan or convert them to afghan gov offices. that would solve 90% of the terrorism in pakistan and surrounding areas.

but dont worry, the indians will run away as soon as their american friends run. that will bring peace in the region!
