**MERCY Malaysia On Standby To Aid Earthquake Victims **

MERCY Malaysia is on standby to deploy members of its Emergency Medical Relief and Rapid Assessment and Logistics teams to Pakistan in aid of the communities hit by Saturday’s earthquake. Its vice-president Dr Mohamed Ikram Mohamed Saleh said they were currently making arrangements on the deployment in the next day or two and already had their medical supplies and all necessary mission items ready to go. "Thus, MERCY Malaysia is appealing for public support in the form of cash and cheques for further deployment of relief teams to affected areas. “Sending donations in kind to this region is not cost-effective due to the many logistical constraints and problems. These are costs that could be better spent in providing relief to the communities there. The best way is for the public to donate in cash, where we can efficiently convert it into medicine and necessary items,” he said in a statement here Sunday.

Cheque contributions can be made out to MERCY Humanitarian Fund, and donations can also be deposited directly into MERCY Malaysia Maybank Account No. 5621 7950 4126. All donations to the MERCY Humanitarian Fund are tax exempted.
