BRCS to send quake relief to Pakistan

The Bahrain Red Crescent Society ((BRCS) is all set to send a two-plane load of relief to earthquake victims in Pakistan. The two planes carrying more than 80 tonnes of aid will leave here today for Islamabad, where the relief goods will be handed over to Red Crescent Society and other government agencies. The aid has been raised by the society and donors, said BRCS Secretary-General Sadiq Al Shahabi, while calling on people and other philanthropic societies to extend their donations generously. He said he was not sure of the total amount of cash donation as it was still coming in, but the cargo had reached around 85 tonnes, since the tragedy struck.

The aid includes, tents, medicines, blankets, clothes, food packets as well as emergency generators and other stuff. The supplies are being stockpiled at the airport cargo holding area. The BRCS is coordinating its efforts with the Pakistan Embassy here and the International Red Crescent. Meanwhile, Discover Islam (a charity organisation dedicated to the spread of Islam) has already sent its team to the affected areas and is assisting the relief work being carried out there.
