Muslim Shower, I don't understand

Now what I don’t understand is the fact that to market this new product which has been used for loong loong while the name “Muslim” shower has been used. I remember when I went to Saudia in 1985, it was still in use there. Nobody named it “Muslim” shower…What happened now… How did this spray handle became “a Muslim” after so many years … :naraz:

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

I think it's been called muslim shower for quite some time now (almost 20 yrs). I remember when I went to middle east I was 4 or 6 yrs old and they were being called muslim showers at that time. I also remember we used to have two types of toilets, one to do our stuff (the flushable toilet) and the other to wash ourselves, the other one was a small one, basically it had a shower fountain kind of thing, you would open the tap and water would start and you would do your cleaning business.

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

a bidet its called... in use still, all over arabia...

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

y bidet ?

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

why its in food section?

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

haha I have always heard of it being called a muslim shower :D

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

whatever shower it is, dont think about it as far as its getting the "job" done :)

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

If people need to make business and introduce their product to the people it is despicable to relate it to Islam. The same shower is used by Christians, Hindoos, Jews etc too. Why to call it a Muslim shower?

Okay, then they must call "Christian Shower" "Hindoo Shower" etc etc?

Those people don't use religion in that sense, it is we Muslims who do it ....

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

Well, Christians, Hindus and Jews don't wash themselves after going to the bathroom and they certainly don't use the little showerheads. For them, sitting in remnants of their own filth is normal (the exact argument I used to turn my brothers off from marrying non-Muslims, hahahaha) I think some Muslim started calling it a Muslim shower to be discreet--you can't really call it an "ass-washer" now could you?

Re: Muslim Shower, I don’t understand

I think it’s kinda interesting how they realize that it’s much better to use water, now they’ve marketed those WetOnes and charmin wet wipes :cb:

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

Raatkirani

I understand your point. Majority of these faith don;t wash themselves, true but I am referring to those who are becoming more closer to being Muslims i.e. who wash themselves. Even then, this idea of naming it "Muslim" shower is quite unacceptable to me and mentally irritating....

It could have been named something else. I know a few more products in the market where the same "Muslim" has been used to name them when other faiths also use those products.

Technically speaking, looking at the whole appratus, the angle of this hand held spray gadget is incorrect too. How can you clean yourself at the toilet seat with that shower. You have to change to a really awakward position on the seat to use it. Isn;t it?

It'd definitly splash here and there and I doubt the toilets of the users of such high presuure system is free from splashes on "unclean" waste water on the floor and the walls etc. :(

Just imagine if a fat person has to sit on the toilet seat and wash him/herself, how is it gonna happen. The toilet seat is too small compared to their hips and their width and then the angle of this shower id wrong too....... :(

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

muslim shower and bidet are two different things.

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

I'm more concerned as to how you actually spent time thinking about how a horizontally challenged :p person is able to wash themselves. :(

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

why are you feeling uncomfortable :D

Re: Muslim Shower, I don’t understand

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

Not to be rude - but how exactly did you become some sort of "expert" on the "ass-washing" of non-muslims anyway? Different cultures have different ways of cleaning themselves, and that certainly doesn't mean they're running around with poo on their bottoms.

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

Trust me, goray are infamous for skid marks in their underwear. Listen to the radio, watch TV and they always throw in jokes about it because it's true. They even mentioned it on SNL two weeks ago. One time, I was watching a dating show on MTV years ago, and the guy mentioned that he liked to use wet wipes to clean himself after going to the bathroom. Everyone started to ridicule him (what?! wet wipes--how weird!) A Sikh friend of mine (Sikhs use lotas) was dating a white woman and he remarked that he made her take a full bath before sleeping with her because it was hard for him to tolerate the fact that she didn't wash up. When you have a baby at a hospital, the doctor gives you a squirt bottle to use as a lota. When she started explaining it to me, I told her I did this everyday and I knew what to do. She was relieved and her comment to me was "I cannot tell you how many women don't know how important it is to use water to wash up every time they go. They always look at me funny when I give them the squirt bottle." I know some American women wash up once or twice a month with douche, but that's it (other than their daily baths).

Yes different cultures have different ways of cleaning themselves, but OBVIOUSLY using water is FAR superior to using just toilet paper alone. An analogy: Would you hold someone's hand knowing it had feces on it that they just wiped off with a piece of tissue, or would you prefer they wash their hand before touching anything? Why should your private parts be any different? You can wipe all you want, but wiping alone means you still have remnants of something left. Just like a greasy pot--you WASH them, not wipe them.

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

I am a gori, so I think I know about wiping my butt with TP, and yes, our mothers gave us lectures about cleanliness and so on. I agree that water is superior, but you still need to wash your hands with soap.
Trust me, nothing is more disgusting than a desi standing on a toliet using a "muslim shower", and the filty water runing down the side of the toliet onto the floor. I have cleaned up more than my fair share of potty water after desi guests. And apparently they never used soap to wash afterwards, because I didn't have to refill the dispenser once in three month visit. And do not get me started on the whole not taking a shower during that time of month, or using the same dirty towel for your whole body.

Re: Muslim Shower, I don't understand

I think you have way too much time on your hands to be thinking of all these things..
