Muslim Etiquette

To all the maulvi’s out there:

If you are going to do business, keep a few things in mind.

Smile as the customer comes in.

Say thank-you’s as the customer leaves.

If the customer needs help finding something, please do help them.

If the customer is of the opposite sex, then either you smile at them in a civilized way to make sure they feel welcome in the store, or have a male and a female on duty at all times in the store, so that you don’t need to deal with someone of the opposite sex. You’re happy. Customer is happy.

Do not open the store at bloody 12 pm or 1 pm in the afternoon. Have some darn tameez and be disciplined in your timings. You know, after all, discipline is something that Islam is really big on.

Don’t close your business at odd hours without prior warning.

If you have a non-muslim customer, don’t mistreat them. Treat them as you would a muslim customer.

If you have a female customer that does not wear hijab, don’t be rude to her.

I mean seriously, if you are a maulvi, there should be no reason you can’t run a business just as well as anyone else.

Re: Muslim Etiquette

is this with refference to something in particular? some incident that u noticed or experienced? or just a general thought?

Re: Muslim Etiquette

General thought over a pattern I've noticed. I think lots of people who are "religious" get carried away with how they behave themselves in public and as workers when living in a non-muslim country.

Re: Muslim Etiquette

well I dont know how much its true the way you are trying to portray it, but if it is true then I will agree with you that they should change their ways.

may Allah help us all.

Re: Muslim Etiquette

depends on what they think "religious" means....

unfortunately many muslims think that praying and fasting punctually makes them religious, and the "dealing with others" part is totally ignored, which is in fact more important than ibadaat....

a hadith says "al-deenu mu'aamelaat" meaning the religion on dealings (with people)....
and i think nothing requires more dealing than running a business....

also another hadith, which is relevant, is that if a person sitting on the counter deals with people happily and with intentions to help them, then its counted as sadaqa....

Re: Muslim Etiquette

I'm nto sure but is doing business while someone is praying wrong or somethiN? Why can't you keep someone out there takin care of bzness n helpin customers while you (n other employees) take turns praying?

Re: Muslim Etiquette

To all the mod-Muslims out there:

If you are going to do business with a maulvi, keep a few things in mind.

Smiling as the customer comes in does not mean you can step on him because he is nice.

When he says thank-you as you leave, say thank you back.

If you need help finding something, please ask them. He's got better things to do rather than keep an eye on every customer.

If the customer is of the opposite sex, then when he smiles at you in a civilized way to make sure you feel welcome in the store, don't think he is being lecherous or hitting on you or making eyes at you.

If he doesn't have a male and a female on duty at all times in the store, so that you don't need to deal with someone of the opposite sex, then realize they are not comfortable with dealing with non-Mehrams...Afford them all the courtesy that their belief entails (Casting the eyes away, lowering the eyes, not arguing e.t.c.)

If they open the store at bloody 12 pm or 1 pm in the afternoon, have some darn tameez and be disciplined to know that's his business. You know, after all, ownership is something that Islam is really big on.

If they close their business business at odd hours without prior warning, it's their prerogative.

If you are a non-muslim customer, don't stereotype that you will be mistreated by them. Treat them as you would a non-Muslim gora business owner.

If are a female customer that does not wear hijab, don't make a point to deliberately try to get them to watch your breasts by shaking them in their faces.

I mean seriously, if you are a mod-Muslim, there should be no reason you can't visit a business run by a maulvi just nicely as anyone else.

Re: Muslim Etiquette

Well, i think most moulvis feels more comfortable dealing with goras than with mod-muslims and vice versa.

Re: Muslim Etiquette

:rotfl: …:k:
PCG is right on the schedule issue…it’s not nice closing the business without prior warnings …so customer would go away and business will suffer:(
