i heard some ppl saying how music is against islam and how you are not supposed to listen to it…but isn’t music an art?
i mean i listen to music all the time and it calms me and makes me happy…if it were against islam…why would there be so many bands such as junoon and strings and so many other singers.
isn’t it a passion…i agree that allah talla knows more then us and we do not understand his ways but this topic is confusing me…pls help

masoom... There are two views to it. One view states that its totally unacceptable, and the other states its acceptable, provided it is kept under some limits.... I personally vouch for the second one. However, you must do what your heart tells you to do. Another thing, personally I have seen people who listen to music themselves and tell others its haraam, watch out for them and dont listen to them, for they are hypocrites.
yes spock i do agree with you

whts so confusing about it? there are clear guidelines that you can follow. further yes there are many bandz and singers etc but that does not justify wht is right and wht is wrong. their actions are their deeds and they are questionable for that.
one little thing to ask. lets say listening to music IS haram and is prohibited. will you then stop listening to it or will try to find some other way to get out of it? :-)
well i dont know......that depends if it is or it is not

come on yar, no need to give her a trivia... if (again im saying if) you are saying haraam, then why do you listen to it? Thats the real question...
its definitely not haraam.
however, the influences of music can be very strong, and you've got to be careful to what you you're listening to. Music comes with lyrics and the lyrics do influence.

so you know better than the four Imam's of fiqh, and other great scholars??
music is haram but so are many other things that normal muslims do everyday. so it is a persons choice to do a sin or not to do a sin. but we can't lie and say it's not haram

Its its haram, dont listen to it... He who knows hes sinning is the worst, according to Islam. If you believe in something, then act accordingly, otherwise youre nothing more than a hypocrite...
:k:

I think the person who does something against Islam but accepts it as wrong is better than the person who denies and rejects the words of Allah or the Prophet (peace be upon him) and tries changing the religion to suit his/her whims and desires.
Most scholars agree that a person who accepts his sin as a sin is still a Muslim (a sinful one) but a person who pretends his sin is halal has invalidated his Iman.
I could be wrong, just what I think. :)

Saif, firstly, this entire thing is a big controversy. If somoene comes upto me and says, brother music is haraam, dont listen to it, and lets say I do what he tells me, and then I find him listening to music himself, what impression does this create? The worst thing would be hypocrisy, and thats what we need to get rid of first, before declaring anything haraam or issuing fatwas.
We should lead by example, not hypcrisy...
mods, u might wanna move this thread to religion forum.

**Music is expressly prohibited in many Ahaadith. Among the dominant purposes of our beloved Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) was to destroy musical instruments. (Mishkat vol.2).

Almighty Allah Taãla says in the Noble Qurãn: ‘And there are some peoplewho purchase idle talk. for them is a severe punishment’. Ibn Masóod(Radhiyallaahu Ánhu) says that this verse was revealed regarding singing.
-
Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, ‘Allah ordered me to
destroy musical instruments.’ -
Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, ‘People from my Ummat willdrink wine and give it other names and singing girls and musical instrumentswill be played before them. Allah will cause the earth to swallow them, anddisfigure their faces into apes and pigs.’
