Most scholars agree that the narrations about Music are authentic and like another brother mentioned in another thread Islam means Submission (to Almighty Allah).
To some Non-Muslims and the so called Modern-Muslims the prohibition on music might sound bizarre and ridiculous because the reasons for it are not obvious, just like some of the people in the past who didn’t know about bacteria must have thought its ridiculous how Muslims are required to wash there hands after going to the toilet or before they eat even when no dirt is visible or why they are not allowed to eat un-slaughtered meat, after all to them it was just meat, but today science is discovering some of the reasons for the prohibitions.
Islam is a logical religion and behind all of Allah’s orders is wisdom, but we don’t always know the reasons why he has forbid something, as even in this day and age we have very limited knowledge. We can’t permit or prohibit something based on common sense or how the society we live in feels about something. Our opinions vary from one person to the other and therefore we cannot use them to judge between good and bad.
Behind all of God’s orders is great wisdom some of the reasons for his prohibition and orders have been discovered by science, some it will and maybe some it may never discover. We don’t know everything about the effects of Music on the soul and our spiritual well being, it may even have negative effects on our physical health, which we don’t know of. At the end of the day for me as a Muslim it doesn’t matter what the reasons are if Allah or his Slave (peace be upon him) has said something is wrong then it is wrong.
I don’t deny that music does have an affect on us and for a mere few minutes it does take your mind of the stresses of life but we don’t know of its side effects on the body and soul. The only way to truly relieve oneself from stress and give rest to the heart is by remembering the Almighty, worshipping him the way He and his Messenger (peace be upon him) have taught, listening to his sacred words being recited and doing other actions which please him
I’m not saying I am not saying I have never listened to music, I’m only human and we are weak and hope that Allah will forgive me and give me the courage to perfect my actions one day and live my life totally according to the Quran and Sunnah. I remember a saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which goes something like “whoever accepts his sin as a sin then death will not overtake him until he has repented from it”, I’m not sure of the authenticity of it or the book it is in but I’m quite certain it was a reliable Imam who I heard it from. And it is obvious that anyone who is arrogant and defends his wrong actions as being permissible when the Quran and Sunnah say otherwise then that person is going against Allah and has invalidated his/her Faith because of denying what God or his Messenger (peace be upon him) have said.
And our Lord Allah Ta’ala knows best.
How can the creation of or appreciation of melodies be so haraam, when 1) The azaan is musical 2) The proper recitation of the Holy Quran is very melodic as well.

Please give us any example of authentic Hadith from Bokhari Muslim or some renouned book of Hadith.
Also, this hadith also happens to be authentic:
Ai’shah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrates: “Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Buath (a story about the pre-Islamic war between the two tribes of the Ansar, the Khazraj and the Aus). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, lay down and turned his face to the other side. Then Abu Bakr came and spoke to me harshly saying, ‘Musical instruments of Satan near the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him?’ Thereupon, Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, turned his face towards him and said, ‘Leave them.’ When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I signaled to those girls to go out and they left.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
