Music and Islam

Is music haram in Islam? If so, who has commited a bigger sin, one who has plucked a few strings that caused a few people to forget about there problems for a little bit Or one who is blowing up innocent human being around the world in the name of religion thinking that will bring him 70 odd virgins?

Please discuss..

As per Merriam Webster, the word discuss means
a: to investigate by reasoning or argument b : to present in detail for examination or consideration c : to talk about

It does not mean to start shouting around and calling people names.
Thanks.

You can search on this forum and you will find endless discussions on the topic.

Re: Music and Islam

Yes, I did but they are more like ego related arguments rather than what feels right. And one nothing goes, a quote from Quran is taken out of context to assist some people. I am trying to see if people think its more human to be a musician or a barbaric fanatic who would go out of his way to cause problems to other on some baseless issues. Doesn't Islam preach humanity before everything else? If so, than whp is more human between the two?

Re: Music and Islam

its a debateable issue.

i think it dependz on the type of genre u r listening. so if some specific genre u think should be haram, then its haram for u.

Re: Music and Islam

We do have a Religion forum you know.

As for your question then any sane person (including those who believe music is forbidden) will agree that the latter is far more heinous, disgusting and evil regardless of whether the person’s motives were 72 virgins or the persecution of their people or both.

If a Muslim believes music is wrong, or if a Jew believes non-Jews are Goyim (cattle, beasts walking on two legs) whilst they themselves are the superior race then it’s their beliefs, who the hell are you to dictate what someone can or cannot believe? If it’s ridiculous to you then that’s just your opinion, you’re free to express it but be respectful and don't expect people to confrom to your way of thinking.

Why is it that so-called moderate people are so quick to label as extremist anyone who doesn’t agree with their point of view?

Re: Music and Islam

So its more like a personal preference? Cuz if that is the case than I guess it will be based on morality. And morality is a variable. Then where would one draw the line. But regardless of what culture you belong to, please answer the question I asked in the first post. Who do you think is a better person?

Re: Music and Islam

Obviously you are hurt and offended. Your harsh post is only pointing the finger towards yourself rather than the so called moderates you are trying to blame. This is why I defined the word discuss in my first post. Perhaps i asked for too much from you guys so please forgive me.

Re: Music and Islam

My post harsh? Pot calling kettle black?!

I wasn't rude to you, sorry if it came off that way... Khair regardless of my lehja I think I said it how it is..

Re: Music and Islam

y u r comparing apples n oranges together. keep them seperate!
(dont forget apple is false fruit too)

there are degrees of iman. so we cant even compare one muslims with the other.

the thing u r highlighting requires deep analysis. u see wat u r made to see, which perhaps only dealth with the aftermath of incidence.

i am sure anyone gonna react the same way if some one takeover their belongings, upon force.

u said urself the rebllious nature of teen in "What do you want?" thread, so wat u asked shouldnt be new for u.

Peace

Re: Music and Islam

ALLAH (swt) mentions in the Quran one of the qualities of a Mo'min to be that he does "Zikr" (praises Allah) while he is walking, siting or lying on comfortable beds.

^ This becomes very difficult for a person who frequently listens to music because he would be most of the times either Listening or murmuring his "Latest" favourite song instead of doing "Zikr" (While traveling in a car, using computer, .....etc.)

In a Hadith the prophet (saw) said," Do as much Zikr that people start thinking of you to be crazy"

^Which is not possible if I frequently listen to Music.

In another Hadith the Prophet (saw) said," If a person remembers Allah in his Heart, Allah also remembers him, if he remembers Allah in a crowd, Allah remembers him in the company of Angels"

^ Very little of the above becomes possible for an addict of music.

Read Quran and try to understand it in the light of ahadith and also listen to some traditional scholars like Shaykh Hamza Yusuf Hanson, Imam Zaid Shakir, Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoobi, Abdal Hakim Murad.

Re: Music and Islam

I dont understand the jib jab over music being haram in islam......
...
people blowing up music shops, posting threatning letters to the owners, Some moronic group buring CDs in the heart of capital...that just shows the weakness of their so called imaan or watever you wanna name it..
Since they cant control their self or should i say NAFS, so they feel the urge to shut down all those music places by force giving it a name islam says so.....
thats just show wat a pathethic mentality and approach these jack assessss got.
Stupid Retards

Submission to peace:
your reasoning are merely your own interpetation or whoever taught it to you......
