He should never step down. Malaysia was in worse condition when Mahatir, their president took power. He remained in power but was a very liberal guy who focused on the economy. After 23 years...Malaysia was a very strong and industrially sound nation.
Thats what musharraf was trying to do. Two things that democracy or zia or anyone couldn't ever provide Pakistan, musharraf provided:
A free media
and a very strong and independent judiciary
He also took a step toward something none of the previous governments wanted to mess with. Religious extremism. What happened at the lal masjid was ESSENTIAL and HAD TO HAPPEN. Lunatics can't simply go around killing anyone, kidnapping them or suicide bombing shia and sufi mosques at will.
I pray to god every time I do namaz, that Allah keep musharraf safe and in power. Too many families and honest people's lives have been destroyed by benazir and especially nawaz...
