So Musharraf has defied many predictions. He hasn’t left the country for good, he hasn’t taken any assylum in USA/Uk/Saudi Arabia etc , he is willing to live and move freely and he is not interfering with the current political mayhem. One thing though, is he sure he would be well proctected in his new farm house, after moving out of the army house in Rawalpindi? I mean his place would be a huge target for suicide attackers.

Former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf’s under-construction farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shehzad orchard scheme will be handed over to him early next month.

“The completion of the house, built on the five-acre farm, is now in final stages,” Musharraf’s architect Hammad Hussain, who is supervising the construction, told ‘The News’.

However, he said even after its handing over to the former president considerable more time would be needed for him to shift because several things like buying and transportation of furniture, construction of servant quarters and any additional structure for security purposes and interior decoration would be required before his moving there.

Hammad Hussain believed that Musharraf was expected to shift to the farmhouse after Eidul Azha, meaning mid-December. The general slowdown of activities in the month of Ramazan somewhat delayed the completion of the premises, he said.

The young architect, who often meets the former president in connection with the construction of his house, always finds Musharraf in high morale. “I don’t notice any change in his spirits and sense of humour,” he said.

To a question, Hammad Hussain said that the former president was mostly spending his time in playing tennis, squash and bridge apart from his other activities.

Hammad Hussain said lots of people keep meeting Musharraf, who often has a very busy schedule. On Eidul Fitr, he said, he found retired and serving army men, politicians and many others greeting him at his Army House residence in Rawalpindi.

The former president has “highly lucrative” invitations to speak in the United States and some western countries, but he did not want to avail them for the time being as he was “extremely conscious” about his image that even his visit to America for this purpose would emit a very negative message about him. “People would start saying that Musharraf has fled the country. He is very mindful about such things,” a source, having interaction with him, said.

Musharraf also has invitations to deliver lecture in some countries of the Middle East. He is likely to avail of some of them. His first foreign visit after his resignation as president of Pakistan on August 18 this year is likely to be one of these countries for speaking purpose.

The source said that the former president’s stay would not be more than a few days. He said that Musharraf has no plan whatsoever to settle down abroad. “When he is conscious about having any longer stay in any foreign country, he will absolutely not leave Pakistan for good.”

Musharraf’s new home is spread over around 10,000 square feet covered area of the five-acre farm. It resembles with a Mediterranean house having Moroccan colours.

Hammad Hussain said that the Capital Development Authority by-laws were fully followed. Musharraf keeps visiting the under-construction house. The frequency of his visits increased after his exit from the Presidency.

As president, Musharraf went to the site on August 17 when he was faced with the toughest moments of his life and rule.

The farmhouse is bounded on its two sides by the similar estate, owned by Ghalib Nishtar, grandson of the Abdur Rab Nishtar, while there are roads on its other two sides. Its construction started in end-2006 and kept facing delays “because of the non-availability of the former president due to his official preoccupations.”

Hammad Hussain confirmed that Musharraf’s son Bilal continued to work in the United States while his daughter was in Karachi. The former president, his spouse, Begum Sehba and his mother, who are living in the Army House, will also be the occupants of the new residence.

Mushrraf made a deal with Zardari & that is why he is keeping his keeping house built on illegal land. And, as long as PPP & Zardar are around he will be fine (one crook supporting another), but if PMLN comes back & take power at federal level Mushrraf will run out on next flight out. :D

True, once Sharif get's in, Mush will either be in jail, or running away as fast as he can.

Mush is hardly moving around freely, he rarely ventures out, and when he does only with huge security.

He doesn't want to go to a country where he will not have his beloved protocol, and where nobody will care who he is.

Yes luckily we are not behaving like Afghanis so far. Mutual tolerance still exists albeit in small way in Pakistan.

But may be the day is not too far away when we in Pakistan will surely follow the golden Afghan tradition of fratricides and suicides in "heroic" efforts to convert the whole country into a huge pile of rubble.

Its all part of a deal, and Musharraf has been ordered not to talk to the media or visit any foreign countries to deliver lectures, otherwise his Uncle Kiyani will be very very mad! He's been told to shut up, drink his whiskey and play his bridge/golf quietly. He even had to get special permission to travel to Karachi to see his daughter.

For most politicians he is an old washed our relic of the past, but there are still quite alot of them, including the Sharifs who'd make life miserable for him. I hope they do, and hope this illegal farmhouse gets confiscated, sold and the money given to any group of people affected by his war mongering.

He hasn’t left the country which is a good thing unlike past thugs who’d run out at the slightest hint of ‘accountability’.

Before Musharraf is prosecuted I’d rather prosecute Nawaz Sharif, Zardari, Chaudharies, Altaf Hussein etc, but then that is my wish list :bummer:

^ All of them were prosecuted, except the Chaudhries (their loans were forgiven by Shauky). NS got convicted on corruption, Altaf got convicted for murder, Zardari though not convicted (thanks to mush) but spent like 2/3rd of his life in jail.

Now in all fairness its baba-jee's turn, for his kartoots during the course of 8 years.

Those 'prosecutions' barely resulted in any fruit. Zardari still owns all his billions looted, Nawaz Sharif spent his jail time in Mecca/Medina and still owns all his looted billions, Altaf never saw the jail.... so the justice is not really served yet!

Who said musharaf is not in assylum???
He certainly is in assylum. ARMY HOUSE dudes.

He was never gona be safe in USA and UK or any other country someone would have killed him for sure.

and according to Associated Press saudi Arab refused to give him assylum by saying "everybody is not Nawaz" (though musharaf never asked for their assylum)

just ask him to make just one rally like Nawaz sharif, just one, i bet ya he will be dead

Unfortunately, you cant go beyond what a legal system states. I mean thats like saying how a thief shouldnt just spend 5 years in jail, his head should be chopped off. Nawaz was barred from taking part in the elections, Altaf cant come back to the country, fair enough.

He did indeed defy the prediction of some his 'few' supporters here who were sure he was going to be the prez for the next 5 years :)

I am not implying that I would let Musharraf escape free a la Nawaz style :)

Zardari was jailed for around 10 years? but that does not mean he has served his complete term, he was mainly jailed coz of political victimisation not because a court came to conclusion that he be jailed for 10 years for 1+billion in loot+plus murders plus plus plus.

Nawaz being barred from election isn't a "punishment" and Altaf not returning to country is not a punishment too, infact he is enjoying his life in UK at the expense of party donors (who may not really know about that).

Again, Musharraf wouldn't go scott free from the crimes he committed.

By delivering paid lectures after his retirement, he must be the only pakistani head of state (after Sikander Mirza) who would be working to earn money. That must say something about his integrity, as he could also have accummulated billions of dollars like NS & BB/AAZ and therefore not have to do anything for spare cash.

Incidently Sikander Mirza used to work in a hotel in London after his stint as president, imagine that in this day and age of mega corruption.

Baba loag! the top leadership in Pakistan (or any other civilized society) is very hard to prosecute. The reason is simple. Whatever "kartoots" they do, they do not leave a paper trail. Even if there is a paper trail, it is buried so deep that you have to wait until Qiyamat before you could uncover a tiny bit of it.

Secondly when these "ex-leaders" were doing bad things, many in the "current-leadership" including bureaucrats and generals were their helpers. So the evidence of any wrong doings evaporates in the thin air.

And court system is utterly dependent on "paper trail" or evidence. In the absence of evidence, courts have to let them go. The usual result is that the top guys go home and the nation is left with so much bitterness.

Thus it is not to let anyone go "scott free", but rather to reduce the bitterness and intolerance in the nation, the top leadership should be allowed to live off their last years in peace.

Looking at the results of the recent past "Nabbing" and prosecutions, it will be reasonable to say that we should not have made the case against Zardari, or Nawaz Sharif either.

All that corruption hoopla went to waste when the nation elected / selected them in an open election. So for ordinary people it didn't matter if AZ or NS did anything wrong. We the educated elite should learn from these "ordinary people" and quit arguing about innocence or corruption of the top leadership.

Look Nawaz was already "Sharif" (innocent). We should start calling other leaders sharif as well. Like Zardari Sharif, Pervez Sharif, BB shaheed sharif, Ilahi chodhry sharif etc. etc. just like medieval Christians used to call "Pope" the "innocent".

khatarra, come on, stop sensationalizing things. Musharraf wants to use his position as an ex-ally to the US to make some fast cash in these universities. Are you suggesting someone like Fazl Elahi or Ishaq Khan made billions of dollars?

Good post, but you're forgetting one thing, Nawaz was convicted on corruption charges, and it prevented him from becoming an MNA. Basically, you cant bend the rules just because the finger now points to your favourite leader. Let him face the music too. If hes innocent, he has nothing to worry about.
