One thing Musharraf did good was to go against the Evil Taliban. But fell short of going after the ideology.

Yes study the Kargill war, Nawaz Sharif and Musharaf should never be allowed to hold office again after that, they disgraced humanity and the nation of Pakistan. Musharaf was a traitor for not supporting the troops who fought so well at many of Kargills short and bloody battles.... in fact only the battalions under his direct command supported him in the coup, the rest were so depleted and demoralized by his treachery they were the last to know of the coup.

He is an oppurtunistic wannabe soldier and a mortal coward, if you check out his record he only rose so high to command becuase he was related to so and so and had so and so much funds... if he had been in the same file as me he would never have made luetenant let alone general.

Pakistan has a record of corrupt army officers and while the system has produced some brave souls and many heroes the manjority have been skunks like Musharaf and Zia before him.

I agree the war on the Taliban had to happen sooner or later but that does not justify the manner in which he betrayed his nation and the faith of Islam.

Rather than stooping to the West he could have shown more backbone and taken the innaitative to bargain for deals with them instead. We had an opputunity to finish the war early on but he let it slip now we pay the price in blood.

And at the end of the day everyone will have to talk to the Taliban anyway so Mush could have taken steps to such an end long ago... you reap what you sow.

Musharaf made his bed now he must lie in it...

It's simple, so simple yet like Ariel Sharon and Zia ul Haq i fear he has his foot in the door anyway.

what did Kargil have to do with NS? Musharraf was the one who did everything due to his giant ego. NS came to know of it after the deed was halfway done. so why does Kargil disqualify NS?

I’m sorry to those who support Nawaz Sharif and Musharaaf but both of those men are totally incompetant and should not hold office again.

Nawaz Sharif when he came to know of the deed only fed more men into the meat grinder of a battle what started as a few cross border raids by both sides came to the brink of a Nuclear conflict… would any sane person let such a man hold office again… i hope not!

As for Musharaf the fact that egotistical millitary moron started that bloodbath is reason alone for him not to be trusted to lead the nation.

I rest my case.

Haha you must be joking Madam...

I support no one in the political establishment of Pakistan, i would say the nearest politician to my liking right now is Imran Khan and even he is way too tainted for the job.

Just for the record i have yet to see anyone worth supporting if you see someone be sure to pointthem out to me okay Sister?

Frankly i'm in favour of something totally new but I doubt very much if it's going to be implemented.... well while theres life theres hope i guess.

Musharraf weighs up Pakistan presidency bid

LONDON — Pakistan’s former military ruler Pervez Musharraf said he thought he had a good chance of winning the next presidential election, in an interview aired Friday.

The ex-president told BBC radio he wanted to help the country regain its self-confidence, saying Pakistan was in a “pathetic” situation.

Though he could not be confident of victory, the former army chief said it was better to try and fail to lift the “darkness” enveloping the nation than to make no effort.

Asked if he was confident of becoming the next president of Pakistan, the retired general replied: "No I can’t be assured, I can’t be confident, but I believe there is a good chance of my winning on the political scene.

"I haven’t decided whether I’m going to be president or anything, but however, winning first of all in the next election is the issue.

"I can’t be sure of that also but as I said, there is a good chance and I believe very strongly that it’s better to try and fail rather than not try and go down without trying, because at this moment we see darkness all over in Pakistan.

“We have to show light, we have to show an alternative or viable alternative where people see light and gain some confidence, because there is total breakdown of self-confidence of the people of Pakistan. They have lost hope in Pakistan. It’s a pathetic situation.”

Musharraf ousted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in a bloodless coup in 1999. He was president from 2001 and has mostly lived in London since resigning in 2008.

The next presidential elections should be in 2013.

Musharraf was asked about fears that money donated towards flood relief in Pakistan might end up lost in corruption.

“There is corruption in Pakistan, there is no doubt about it, it is heartbreaking how people are not bothered about the country. They have a lot of money and yet they are corrupt,” he said.

"The advice I would like to give is they ought to be careful on who they are giving the money to.

“One thing that I would like to advise when you give your money, a donor or an organisation getting the money, it’s good that they show so many hundred thousand dollars collected but we should ask how much is going to the people?”
